Is there any special way I can get my data off my hardrives again? I had gotten a currupt xp and went to redo my system with a different old Xbox hd. It showed up with partitions in the set up and stupidly I thought they were just the partitions on the Xbox hd I was using till after I deleted them all and went OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

I had one I was using in this rig to do movies with for my kids and my bedroom pc but my other 2 drives are loaded with stuff I can care less for BUT they have pictures on them both of my kids from 8 years ago to today I had not backed up I just cannot bare to think of losing.

I plugged in the movie drive and gave it a new partition after I did my nex XP install and it wiped that drive clean, I never formated the drive and tried it as all 3 options, and with the 2 that asked if I would like to format I told it no in hopes I mat still be able to save it. But I am at someones mercy right now. this is way beyond my skills and I desperatly need help for if I cant just get my photos back I am goiing to be crushed for a super long time not having those memories of my youngest as he growing up, 1st birthday, and many of my oldest as well. I just want to curl up and kick the bucket right now I feel so stupid.

Can anyone help??? PLEASE?!?!?!?

TIA

OK so as with most my stuff when I cant get answers I decided to dive into this and become an expert for if there is one thing I hate most is paying someone to do something for me. So with a little push in the righ direction and some trial and error I was able to fix all my problems, figured out how to fix partitions, and even recover lost data off hard drives I thought when I did a complete format were lost for ever and got some files back off one drive I thought were long past gone.

I ended up using 2 programs.
EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 4.0.1
PTDD Partition Table Doctor

The first one I used on the sata drive that I was using as my test subject for it all. After many, many many, you get the idea, partition redos of many sorts, and formats, to the point it said my drive was bad and was no longer seen on the system other then in the background by the two above programs, the EASEUS one was able to still get into it and not only find my kids movies I redid for them, but stuff I had on that drive from many years ago. I cleaned out my Spare 250 gig, plugged it in, it did its thing and at the end asks what you want to save and tell it where to. After about 4-5 hours of hell, but soooooo worth it vs losing it all and redoing all I had done and put on it in the first place, my spare drive had everything on it that drive once had, including pictures I thought were gone many years ago. That is one program that is going no where anytime soon.

The other 2 drives that I messed a few times with different partition styles, but didnt format, was fixed in the matter of a few minutes and a few reboots. PTDD found my first drive in under 3 mins. Found the old partition, what programs were in that partition, asked if thats the one to rebuild, clicked HELL FUCKING YES, and BAM, it was done. Rebooted the pc a few times and its like it was never a problem. The 2nd one was a little bit more stubborn. It wouldnt let me browse it and had 2 NTSF parts and a other partition on it. Since the 2 game me the same errors and the one NTSF was a different error, one said after if fixed the partition use bootfix and it would let me browse it, I decided to wing it and go for the 2 with the same errors and try the bootfix thing. If push come to shove I atleast knew with the other program I could get back in and take the programs out, may take another 4-5 hours, but can be done. But after I did the partition find thing, and it said it was still bad, clicked on fixboot, and BAM, there it all was back safe and sound.

So today I am more then over joyed, learned how, and what, the different partitions mean. How do to data recovery not only for me but anyone else, and can fix bad partitions, granted with the help of the programs, but I am still a step smarter then where I was yesterday morning, and it turned out not to be too bad a thing after all for I learned a lot. Especially the importance of backing up more often for I am using my last 2 xbox HDDs and storing all my photos on them for safe keeping if something really bad should happen ;)

But all in all, if you read my problems, and all I wrote on how I fixed it all, I recommend the two programs highly along with Partition Magic 8.0 as well for total Partition controll over what XP has built in and then some.

As long as you haven't saved anything new to the drives where the partitions were, this program should be able to recover the partition information. If you have saved files to the drives, you should still be able to recover most of the data but you may lose whatever was in the physical locations where the new files are now.

I done nothing to 2 of my drives then plug them in. XP sees them, but did not assign a letter, or show up under my computer. My 3rd one I didnt add anything to the drive but I fooled around with the making of partitions under device mgr, and disc management and made it a logical extended drive as a last hope, but now I cant delete its partition at all without it telling me all data will be lost so I stoped right there.

But in the case of all three I have not added nothing to either of them, and just what I done to the one drive only as far as messing with the partitons in hopes it would just make it a new partition but the data would still be there, and was not.

I will try that program, wont hurt at this point I fear. And if you can suggest anything more, like maybe putting the xp disc back in and under the repair section fix mbr or boot record willing to try it as well too. Not sure if it will help but I been searching google like mad, and see some people with some like what I done saying that fixed it but I dont want to fool with it unless I know for sure it wont delete anything and may work. the other 2 drives I am worried about, this one not as much, so willing to fool a bit before I lose it all for good.

I amso installed a program called active partition recover, but since its a demo, and Im broke, it says it wont recover my partition unless I buy the software :(

Damn this really got me all upset, I was just to put this lousy drive in, new xp, slip the old on in as a slave, recover the photos on it, and set it aside and all is right with the world. Not this crap. Wifes car was broken into night befor last, crap stolen, had a mild heart attack yesterday and was rushed to the er being told I may also have angina (sp) and now this. Cannot wait for this year to end.
