Ok well looking at the manual once again, I noticed a small insert I hadnt before that says that using a 20 pin instead of a 24 pin may cause instability.

Rambler you may be correct, I am going to find another PSU with a 24pin connector and try that maybe that's the solution.

Themisfit, when I tried my friends pqi memory I did set the timings to what the stick said it was. that didnt help... my current memory does not have any timings written on it so I have just set the bios to auto.

Thanks I'll let you know what happens

If you google a bit, you can find out what the timings are for your RAM.

I would say try memtest / hard drive test before you run out and spend money on a part you may or may not need.

Good luck

acole1 I am truly starting to agree with you.

Here is an update:

I have borrowed my friends 480W Antec Neo PSU with a 24 pin connector.
When I first tried turning on the comp... NOTHING happened. Tried it again a few times.. nothing... I proceded to install the 20 pin adapter to the 24pin psu, and at that point the system started.

I then removed the 20 pin adapter and tried again in 24 pin. This time it started. I tried to install windows. before it could get to format it said somethign about the boot sector volume being unusable. I assume this hard drive is scrwed at this point.

I installed another hard drive that I managed to find... a third one. this time it went all the way to about 50% at copying files... then the blue screen of death once again.

I am on my very last option which is... I am using a brand new copy of windows XP purchased by my friend about 3 weeks ago. Although I really do not think that it will work.

I am formatting and installing as we speak... I expect to see another BSOD in about 10-15 minutes.

I will proceed to return this GODDAMN motherboard on friday, and see if I can purchase something else...

I will never purchase this brand again I can honestly say.

I want to thank all of you for your time and effort in trying to help me with this problem, especially THEMISFIT, and RAMBLER. I am really appreciative, and although I do not know you personally, I just want to say... if you are ever in the Sacramento area here in California, I will be more than happy to buy you a drink!

Feel free to leave any comments.
again Thank you

No problem :)

Still I really would suggest that you narrow down exactly which part is defective. Your troubleshooting methods seem a bit haphazard.

It's probably the motherboard, considering that you have pretty much swapped out everything else, but double failures do happen. I would encourage you to test every single component.

I share your feelings about ECS... I had read SUCH good reviews about the KN1 series, but it was nothing but a series of headaches for me. Loud voltage regulator fans (ugly too), too many fracking blinky lights, loud chipset fan, locked x8 PCIe slots on the SLI model (not that it matters...). Finally, my KN1 SLI Extreme bought the farm. I had never had good luck with ECS before, and I will certainly never buy another one. I've had fantastic luck with Biostar though - another budget manufacturer.

Back in the nForce 2 days, I built 10-12 systems with this $45 Biostar nForce2 IGP motherboard. Real basic, 2 DDR slots, no SATA or anything, but oh MAN they were stable and painless. I've yet to have a motherboard fail on any of those systems. I've lost many boards over the years - even top shelf Asus boards (2 A7N8X Deluxe nForce2 boards in a row :(), but ECS has a very bad track record. I'm over it.

considering all of these hard drives and memories and videocards worked with my old P4 2.6 ghz... I think that either this motherboard is Defective... or incredibly picky...

Either way, I've spent too much time on this trying to get it to work, I now feel incredibly discouraged, and I just dont feel that spending any more time or money to try to fix it or diagnose it is a good idea.

It's going right back on Fry's shelves!!!!

I am planning to go to Fry's around 4-5 am on Friday for the Black Friday sale, with this motherboard in my trunk. I hope to find something good at a good price, and right after I buy it I am going right to the return line and giving them back this piece of crap!

Damn Dan, sorry to hear it didn't go well. Now that you've tried the new power supply, with the adapter, my guess is you are correct. The motherboard is no good. I've heard a couple stories with the ECS motherboards taking a crap. My brother had one that took a dive about a year ago too. I think I'll be staying away from them for sure now. I'm strictly an MSI guy. Everyone of my boards have been MSI and not a one has done me wrong. I did build a computer for my neighbor out of my old spare parts from my old Alot A system, and the caps on the old MSI board popped this past spring, but I think that had more to do with the age of the board. It was about 6 years old, which isn't a bad life cycle for a motherboard. Good luck at Fry's today and stay away from those ECS boards.

well I returned the mobo on saturday, All is well.

They had a sale for an E6300 OEM bundled with an ECS motherboard(LOL) for $149.00
I thought that was a good price, but didnt go for it because i dont yet have the money to spend for a Conroe system. I would need all new memory etc... to expensive for me right now.

I'll probably wait until the new year and hope that prices go down for memory, and at that point probably go with a conroe and gigabyte or Asus mobo.

Anyhow. Thanks again

Happy Holidays!!

Oh PS... my girl friend stood in line at staples on friday from midnight the night before...
I picked up a 20" Samsung 205BW for $179!!!!! What a great deal...

I also picked up a 160 GB hard drive from compusa SATA 300 for $19.99 Holy Crap!!

I also got a GPS system for $149.99 from staples. it was a MIO 310x
I can write the gps off with my business so thats cool. ^^
It's all about Black Friday!! Just gotta be patient and wait in line in the freeezing cold.
