Help Please: A7N8X Logo, then nothing

Incommunicado

Junior Member
I would really appreciate any help !!

I got an A7N8X deluxe yesterday. I installed everything as per the manual, but when I power the machine on, it gives me the ASUS A7N8X deluxe logo with the two option of pressing TAB or pressing ALT-F2.

Unfortunately, that's it. It doesn't move from here; its frozen. The KB is frozen too (all the lock lights -caps, scroll etc- are lit up) and I can't get beyond this stage.

My Specs :
Athlon XP 3000+
A7N8X deluxe
Gigabyte Maya II Radeon 9700 Pro
1 GB Kingmax DDR 400
WesternDigital 120GB harddrive.

Please help !!!😕

1) To enter BIOS, press delete, not tab, or ALT-F2
2) Are all the fans conected (especially CPU)
3) Is your memory compatible?

One solution is to try (after making sure, everything is installed properly) to clear CMOS by removing the battery, and then moving the clear cmos jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 for a 5 sec. Put battery back, everything should tun fine.

Do you have a USB KB, or PS2?

I think the problem is in the memory. It could be incompatible with the chipset. Generally, a BIOS update'll help. Can you swap your memory with some other kind? Preferrably, DDR333 (2700)?

Good Luck!

Hi Squidman,
Thanks for your reply.
The keyboard completely locks me out, it does not respond to any key , including delete.
The fans are connected, yes.
I did clear the CMOS but it's still the same.
My keyboard is ps2
I hope its not the memery 🙁, in this country the return policies are terrible.

Thanks for your reply, I'm at work now so I can try stuff out later in the evening. Any more suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

What country r you in?

OK, remove the memory. See if the mobo is going to respond to such action by giving out beeps. If its not - probably a faulty mobo (very, very unlikely. Motherboard - is a precision device, not a hardwares store tool)

I really tend to think that the problem lies in the memory. You can also try installing one stick of memory into slot 1, see if it helps any. Also, do you have 1 GB stick, or 2 512 mb sticks? Do you know their latncy?
