Ok guys I have this new system that I built and just recently it has been chopping and lagging real bad when I try to run a program (something basic like winamp) and then it will just lag out real bad when I try to open more than two files/folders. I am thinking that it could be Windows XP. I have the service pack??? Or is it possible that it could be my hard drives. I have defragged them! Specs of the system: Antec True Blu 430 Watt PSU, Gigabyte GA-SINXP1394 MOBO, 2X512MB Corsair XMS PC2700 DDR RAM, 2XWestern Digital 120Gb 8mb cache 7200 rpm hard drives, Radeon 9700 Pro All in Wonder, Pentium 4 2.8GHz (3.08GHz at 146FSB; Scored a 15741 in 3DMark2001SE before problems going to bench again and then post result). I have a CDRW and a DVD Drive, using on board realTek sound. Well I am sureI have all the latest drivers too! Any ideas ???? Thanks ElpiercoOh current CPU Temp 40degrees Celsius(?)

Did you happen to install the XP patch that came out recently and caused many people's computers to slow way down?

Check out this thread.

I've read elsewhere in here that the service pack has caused performance problems for some users. You might try a search in the software forum or maybe MS's web site.

Hope this helps.
