So you made the partitions fat16? There's your problem. FAT16 can only have sizes up to 2GB. I'd just get into disk administrator in XP, and partition it yourself

maxtor reccomends that you do not use the maxbalst software before an installation of windows XP. simply boot into the install and make your partitions there. you could make them fat32 or ntfs

Are you sure your BIOS supports drive larger than 40GB?
That may be a problem too.
In any case if your BIOS supports it, do not use maxblast, let Windows do the job.
FAT16 is max 2 GB, you will need Fat32 or NTFS.

Maxtor makes some decent hard drives, but that Maxtor Blast software stuff is terriable. I couldn't get mine to work. Fdisk the drive and delete the partitions. Or I think XP will do it too. Let XP make the partitions for you.

btw: I like NTFS, but fix to suit.

No need to use Maxblast since the XP cdrom is bootable. You can partition and format during windows setup.
