Last year I went to Europe and it was awesome. I did a ton of walking and visited several cities and countries in the course of two weeks without having a set itinerary, so I had to pick a next destination, and arrange for travel and accommodations almost every other night.

I just want to just have as relaxing a time as possible this time. I want to book everything ahead of time , so that travel time is cut to a minimum and I don't have to worry about arranging travel and accommodations for my next destination. Anyways, I've been thinking about South America, but I've also always wanted to go to Thailand, and I recently saw an episode of Globe Trekkers where they toured Sri Lanka and the Maldives and am pretty set on going to those two places. The Maldives are really expensive and I am going to be a little weirded out by possibly being the only solo vacationer there (mostly I think it will bother me when I have to show up at the restaurants to eat with all the honeymooners), but I don't care. If that's the way it has to be then that's the way it has to be.

I would like a third destination. As you can tell I'm all about the beach. I plan to just chill out on the beach and in my room and read books that I've been buying but haven't had a chance to read yet. What's your recommendation on other places in the same general vicinity? Are there any cool places in India? Would going to Sri Lanka be any different from the Maldives (i.e., is it worth going to both)? I'm okay with doing cultural tourism, in each place, it just will not be the primary focus. I do like learning about ancient civilizations, the older the better, but don't want to fall into the trap I did last time.

Any recommendations for non-crowded places to stay in Thailand? I will do Bangkok for a day or two before heading out to the beach of choice. I want a bungalow or a hut on a beach without too many people around.

Help me.

morning bump.

I think it's actually the wet season in that part of the world. How bad is that? Will it rain the entire time?

My roommate last year went to Thailand in July-August for 2 weeks. He had a great time and said his money went pretty far while he was there... I think a decent hotel was only $20-30 US a night and if you eat local food, it's easy to keep your daily costs around $30-40 easy.

I personally would probably go somewhere in the South Pacific if I had a choice. Bora Bora or Oceana....but that's just me. I wouldn't want to end up in Singapore or something....chances are I would be caned.

Howabout Malaysia? Spend a couple of days at Kuala Lumpur, then head to Langkawi Island? You can get a cheap flight from Bangkok via Air Asia.

If you want to know anything about KL and Malaysia, pm me, i spent 7 months working there and only just got back to Britain.
