I have a pioneer 10X/40X dvd rom (model dvd-114) tray loading drive. I just decided to rip all my dvds and convert them into vcds but the drive has only been capable of ripping at 2X. Is this normal for this drive?

If this is normal than I may need to look into getting a new dvd rom. Any suggestions (about $50)?

I am using smartripper and DMA is checked if that helps.

Thanks

DMA is checked doesn't mean its working as it should.
Go to your hardware properties and make sure its set properly in there.

My friend has the same thing, only slot loading. He gets roughly the same speeds also...

my 10x pioneer ripped around 5x most of the time. make sure you are using a 40 pin cable for the DVD drive. I once connected a 80 pin and for some reason my transfers were "slower"
