you MIGHT be able to find a used 9600pro/XT with an aftermarket passive cooler for that price. only about 20-30% faster than an 8500 though.

What kind of CPU do you have?

An MB with built-in ATI or Nvidia graphics should trump an 8500 for maybe $5-$10 over budget (sell your old MB + video), and give you a PCI-E migration path. Just swap the MBs.

AMD Athlon 2100+

i just had to buy a new mobo to replace my Epox 8RDA+ that had 5 leaking capacitors

i really don't feel like buying another mobo, but thanks for the suggestion
