Help picking out a new router

Right now I have a DI-524. I'm looking for a new router, and currently I'm going between the DIR-655 and the DGL-4300. Price wise they're the same, the 4300 is actually a bit cheaper after rebates. Now each of them has their own benefits so I'm having a hard time deciding between them and could use some help.

They're both gigabit routers and for the wired networking they're practically the same. From some reviews I've seen online the DIR-655 is a little bit faster but only by marginal amounts. I do transfer some files occasionally, movies, games and such so that should be beneficial.

Now, what I'm not sure about is the wireless range on the routers. With my current router it has weak reception and cuts off after a little past half way across the house. What I'm looking for is something that is able to cover the whole house with good reception. The 3 antennas would be useful for better reception at least it should be. The house is pretty large, two story 3000 square feet total, probably 2000 square feet on the first floor. I need it to cover both floors and the entire house with good enough reception for fast web browsing and email.

The DIR-655 has 802.11n, and 10/100/1000 for WAN. It also has a USB connection for Windows Connect now wich could be useful. Now, these features probably aren't al lthat useful and I'm not sure if the 802.11n is all that useful since it's still draft and I dont' have anything that supports it but it'll probably be useful in the future.

Now, the 4300 has this D-Link Gamefuel thing that optimizes games and reduces ping. I am a gamer and do play games online a lot. Another thing is that there are 3 computers wired on and another 2 or 3 that will be on the wireless. I've seen that it really helps when other people are streaming videos or maybe downloading some files. Now, I've seen that for torrenting this helps but not enough to make the games even nearly playable unless they're downloading maybe one thing on lowest. Still, this seems useful in theory and I could probably make good use of this.

So, sorry for all that reading, but basically I have just a few questions.

Which has better wireless reception and would they both be able to cover the whole house?

Is having 3 antenna really all that beneficial over having just one?

Is the Gamefuel useful, how well does it work and is it good enough of a reason to buy the DGL-4300?

I have the DGL-4300. It works fine. The only annoying thing is when changing settings (dont exactly recall, since I set it up a while ago) you have to restart the router after most of the changes. Back on my WRT54g you change whatever you want, you don't have to restart it for every little thing. Anywho besides that setup it works fine.

The GameFuel, I disabled right when I got it. It caused lag spikes when playing games online (I believe it was Battlefield 2). Either it was because the GameFuel fragments the packets and this caused BF2 to spike or because I did not configure the GameFuel. Either way GameFuel is just marketing. If you are worried about torrents slowing you down, just limit the upload.

As for the wireless range, I can't really say anything about that as I do not really use it that much. I do know that I can be anywhere in the house and use laptop, and outside next to the house. Don't use it that much though. Not sure how the DIR-655 would compare.

The DIR-655 is an upgraded 4300 I believe, the only advantage I recall it having is that is handles more connections and the throughput through the LAN/WAN or something is better. I remember seeing some benchmarks about it somewhere. It probably also has some other features/enhancements I did not bother to read about.

Anyway if you can get the DGL-4300 for a lot cheaper, I do not see any reason you would pay $40-50 more for the DIR-655. Others can comment on this. I think I bought mine for $75 or 80 from outpost and the DIR-655 was selling for a lot more. If you can get one for $75 I would buy it as the 655 is selling for about $120. If they both cost the same then I guess the DIR-655?

Well, I'm going to be buying them both from newegg when I do buy one of them and they're just about the same price on there. Now, do you know if having 3 antennas would actually be better for wireless signals or if its just pointless?

I was about to purchase the DIR-655 when I read that its 802.11g range was absolutely horrible and could not penetrate walls at all! Does anyone have experience with this or an alternate with better g range?

I don't know much about routers but I do know what I like. The 655 was the third N router I tried. It was the only one I could get to work on my Dell Vostro lap top. I connect everywhere in my house and outside at 130 MBPS. Easy to set up for a newbie like me.

+1 for the DIR-655!

Would you go with the DGL-4300 if the DIR-655 was cheaper? I just purchased a DIR-655 from newgg for $88.

Is the DGL-4300/4100 more stable than the DIR-655, for example?

Why would the 802.11g range be horrible? Worse than the 4+ year old WRT54G that I have now?
