help picking HDTV set

I am in the market for a new TV, I have a few things that I am looking for though. It has to have component inputs, be capable of 1080p, 37", and preferably be a Samsung. I own many Samsung products and have yet to be let down by the quality. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well... I don't THINK Samsung makes a 37" 1080p, but it's been a while since I was in the market. My last 37" 1080p was a Westinghouse, which at the time (10 months ago?) was the only one available that I could find, and I loved it. Since upgraded to the Westy 42 and am loving life.

Both models have 2 component ins, 2 DVI ins, as well as standard inputs. The 42 has HDMI in, and both have their own speakers if that is an issue for you.

I'm all new to this, but I thought I read getting a set capable of 1080p isn't necessary since all signals sent are 1080i (or 720p depending on the station) due to bandwidth limitations, so is it really necessary to get a TV capable of 1080p?

As I understand it, yes... most broadcast signals and what-not are 1080i at best. But, I believe Blu-Ray players and the newer Toshiba HD-XA2 will output 1080p. Also, a TV that is 1080p-capable will turn a 1080i signal into a 1080p display (usually... mine does anyway) so the benefit is realized there too. As to whether 1080p is noticeably different from 1080i is another story... and people here debate that to death about once a week.

I wanted 1080p so that i could experience true HD when i eventually get a PS3. I know all the people that are going to say ps3 sucks, but i still want one (once the price is a little less outrageous). It doesnt have to be exactly 37" but close to it. Does anyone know if those Sony Bravia sets are any good? I would still prefer a Samsung.

we won't bash you for wanting a PS3. AT may be a little more 360-symathetic, but keep in mind its been out a lot longer. and it is not without its faults. see if there is anything in this list that meets your specifications. Your loyalty to samsung is completely understandable, but as far as i can tell they don't have much of a presence in the area you are looking at. I would suggest, as the others said, a westinghouse.
