help picking a case

I decided to finally build my first system ever. And after spending what seems like eons picking all the different components, I realized I was missing the most important part. A case!! Now, I know nothing about cases. What companies make good cases? What's a reasonable price? And my biggest problem, what do you need as far as cooling?? I'm not going to be doing a whole lot of heavy OC, at least not at this point. Also, what kind of power supply should I get?? Any help, personal experience, or little hints/tips you have would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!

It greatly depends what cooling schemes you need (if you have multiple optical drives, RAID, etc.) and if you do/don't about noise.

If you have the money, go for Lian-Li aluminum cases. The better case prices start at ~$150+.

Other than Lian-Li cases, I would recommend any Antec or Chieftec case. Newegg has a list of these cases w/ a good "Channel Well" P/S.

Also, here'sa nice pre-modded case from a reliable vendor (you may have to wait until they're back in stock).

Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for the quick reply. The general layout is planned as follows (for now):

Athlon XP2100+
Chaintech 7VJL APogee mobo
Chaintech GF4 TI4200 video card
Soundblaster Audigy X-Gamer
512 MB PC2700 memory
DVD-drive and separate CD-RW drive
one harddrive: 60 or 80 GB (no plans for RAID setup as of now since I don't do any heavy file-sharing or video-editing)

Like I said before, there will be very little if any OC at this point, mainly because I'm not really sure how. My biggest concern is finding a case with enough space, that can stay cooled fairly well on its own, and isn't really expensive. $150 sounds like a lot honestly. Maybe $100-$125 is more in my range.

AvatarD, I have used several cases: Antec SX830, SX1030, Lian-Li 65, Evercase screwless case.

The Chieftec/Antec steel cases are heavy and big, alum will make it a bit lighter.

Lian-Li 65 was only $122+ shipping from mpcparts.com. I absolutely love the case. There are several threads on the lian li 65 model. It's pretty spacious AND it comes with a window!

There's some pics of the Lian Li and my evercase. Those 2 replaced my Antecs...sick of the huge and heavy cases.

antec= lexus

lian li - porsche

you won't go wrong either way

both great cases

just get the size and power supply wattage you feel you need.

If you'd like something more on the cheaper end then you can take a look At This. I'm considering picking up one of these. Lots of people are pleased with them and with the price, its not bad at all.

I'm in the same situation sortof. I need to find a cheap PSU that is quiet
