Don't give her a name she has to spell everytime she talks to someone on the phone. My parents gave me an unusual spelling, and sometimes I really hate going over it again and again and again and again....

I never understood this. Is it so you are "unique?" I guess I am a big fan of function over form :p

In our case, no. Wife wants to give her a biblical name and "Rebekah" is the biblical spelling. Not a lot of good female names in the bible btw.

Rebekah happens to be the way some fool decided to write it in English, and is probably an artifact of it being written in Greek.

Ilyana is cool. It may be from a comic book character, but its not weird or over-the-top or anything.

Wife and I found out we are having a girl the other day and now we are debating names. She likes Rebekah Karleigh. I'm partial to Illyana Danielle. Help me win a debate I'm bound to lose!

edit: With either choice we'll call her by her middle name (Karleigh or Danielle).

If you are going to call them by their middle name why not just reverse them? i.e. Karleigh Rebekah and Danielle Illyana...it would probably make it a lot easier on her as she grows up.

Errr....I went by middle name and I don't think my life was particuarly difficult.

What do you mean?

You picked a name from a comic book and then have to ask people on a forum what to name your child...I'm not sure which is worse.

Congrats on the baby, but for pity's sake do NOT saddle her with a name from a comic book nor tell her you left it up to strangers on a forum to pick her name.

Give the kid a break and give her an easy name to say and spell. Believe me standing out in grade school because of your name is not a good thing to go through.
