Wife and I found out we are having a girl the other day and now we are debating names. She likes Rebekah Karleigh. I'm partial to Illyana Danielle. Help me win a debate I'm bound to lose!

edit: With either choice we'll call her by her middle name (Karleigh or Danielle).

Don't give her a name she has to spell everytime she talks to someone on the phone. My parents gave me an unusual spelling, and sometimes I really hate going over it again and again and again and again....

EDIT: BTW, congrats!! You must be so excited!

I agree!

Rebecca is probably going to be the better choice because people can spell it.

I never understood this. Is it so you are "unique?" I guess I am a big fan of function over form :p

I only wish my parents would have spelled my name "Jaiysene," it's so much more fun.

Give the kid a break and give her an easy name to say and spell. Believe me standing out in grade school because of your name is not a good thing to go through.

In our case, no. Wife wants to give her a biblical name and "Rebekah" is the biblical spelling. Not a lot of good female names in the bible btw.

Some advice I once heard for choosing a child's name:

Stand at your back door yelling out names repeatedly. Pick the one you like most, choose wisely, because that's twhat you'll be doing for years to come.

I agree
there are two variations of my name, mine has a v but the other one has a f, so most of the time people assume its a v because it is more popular. But every so often things go wrong so a few days ago I was ordering some toner through the phone and when I got the invoice my name was spelled with an f.. gaddamnit

I vote for a normaly spelled Rebekah Karleigh

Looks to me like the kid will be the loser in this one. I wonder why people think misspelled names are cute?

Rebecca Karlie and you should spell it like that also.

Otherwise she'll spend the rest of her life correcting it over and over again.

I like you quesy, but those names are just awful. Simply atrocious.

First of all, Rebecca is spelled like how I just did it, not with a k. When you put the "kah" at the end it's too phonetic--like it's to help a child learn how to pronounce their name. I read your post where you said it's the biblical spelling, so I guess you can own people on that account, if you must. My family thought that Leah was some stupid contemporary name, too, but it's from the old testament as well, so it's not new at all! Karleigh I am not a fan of because I don't like names I've never heard. Danielle is a great middle name, but Illyana sounds like you've been reading too many fantasy novels.

Call her Skoorbina Danielle.

Let's see:

Rebekah Dodekah Shecka Mecca Crecka Hecka Kecka Lecka...OK, that one is safe.

Illyana Poop-on-a Stup-on-ya Crouton-a Espana....ugh, better pass.

You should do this test before giving a child any name to avoid torment in school ;)

Alright, I tell you what. You look like nice people,

I'm gonna help you out. You want a beautiful name? Soda.

I vote for any name that's a common spelling. I know a Rebecca who's parents chose that name because it was biblical, they just went with the common spelling.
