Help pick a motherboard

Hello, I hope you can help push me in the right direction. I have spent days of enjoyment calculating my new build and reading everything possible about everything, but now it have turned into an annoyance. I cannot figure out how to pick the right motherboard for my setup with a 4670k. I always tend to buy the most expensive motherboard, just so I am not missing out. However, this time I will build a PC in medium high end and want most bang for the buck.

The computer will mainly be used for competitive gaming, listening music, watching 3D blu rays and some work related programming. I will quickly sum up the specs to give you an idea. The motherboard should be for Hasswell architecture and need to be able to fit 4 cards:
  • 4670K with h110
  • 2400mhz+ memory
  • High tower Case with heavy cooling (can fit any motherboard)
  • 1x Killer e2100 network card (already owned so don’t suggest onboard e2200)
  • 1x ZXR Creative Sound Blaster card (already owned)
  • 2x 770 GTX in SLI
  • 3x SSD’s
  • 4x HHD’s
  • 8+ USB devices.
  • Seasonic Platinum high end PSU

Because of my high end network and sound card, mean that I do not really care for on-board audio or network card solutions, neither do I care for on-board wifi.
Color choice doesen't matter either, since I am only opening the case to clean or swap something.

I never bothered much with overclocking before, so do not know a whole lot about it other than the basics. This time I plan to overclock the CPU and GPU’s as much as possible within reasonable temperatures with an h110 corsair cooler for CPU, I might even delid the CPU also (if I screw it up, I will just buy another and another). When I am happy with the speeds, temperature and stability, I do not intend to ever adjusting the overclock again unless my system goes unstable.

I really liked the idea of Asrock z87 OC Formula because of the ocean of nice reviews the z77 version received and because of the easy automated Nick Shin overclocking profiles. I also have little interest to pay much more than 300$, but I am not even sure when this board will be released.

With high-end motherboard, I cannot really justify what I am paying the higher price for. I still feel compelled to spend a lot of money on one because I want something that works. I just don’t want to pay for audio, network or wifi solutions, since they are obsolete.

What do you suggest? Something that beats the OC Formula or something really cheap that can contain all my hardware.

Thanks, I think my choice is narrowed down to

Asrock OC Formula
ASUS Sabertooth
GA-Z87X-OC

I just realised different PCI express 16x 8x 4x speeds on motherboards, ranging from how fast the motherboard make the PCI express speed drop by inserting multiple cards.

I believe 8x speed will be fine on both 770 GTX graphic cards running SLI. Nevertheless will the speeds also be affected by inserting soundcard and network card that both require PCI 2.0 (small connectors)? Because I have no interest in only running 4x speed on all my PCI express connectors.

Wth the Sabertooth, you can run (2) GPUs at x8, and the black 2.0 x16 slot will always operate at x4 regardless of which 3.0 x16 slots are populated.

Taken from the manual of ASUS Sabertooth

With the sabertooth I am unsure how I should place my cards, just to make sure that I will still be able to run 8x speed on the graphic cards. Since the diagrams are confusing me a bit.

If a graphic card is each placed in PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2, then I can put the network card and soundcard in PCIEX16_3 and OCIEX1_2?

I read that: "the three x16 graphics slots all take their bandwidth from the CPU. This tells us that while it supports both quad-SLI and quad-CrossFire the implementation isn't absolutely optimal from a performance perspective."

Does anyone know how much performance were talking about?

Wow! that is going to be one good and well made motherboard. And I like the budget too that you are keeping in mind. Best of luck with it.
