Ok, here is the scenrario... Angela, has a computer problem. She is asking for help from both my self and my old roomate Artie to solve it. here is the text body of what she wrote me...

"Anyways, I am writing because I have a proposition. I recently
purchased a virus program (Norton Antivirus) for my laptop. Because
I am sure there is a virus on there. But when I went to install
it, it wouldn't go past the Rescue Scan portion. In order words
it won't fully install. So here is my proposition. If either of
you can tell me how to fix this problem, I will take you out to
eat and buy you all the booze that you want to drink. Ed...I will
even come out to Riverside if you can fix my problem. " /quote

she has a PII 400 win98se IBM laptop
128mb ram
not sure on hd capacity, but she says she barely has anything on it, and "the pink part is maybe 1/5 the size of the pie"

Angela is cool, but more to the point, My old roomie and I have always been in competition, our last one was to see who would sell the most candy bars for a local charity... he did nothing and at the end, had his parents buy 551 of them the last day. (i had sold 549). So I think coming to you guys for some help and ideas would be no worse than the last time. Thanks for help....

Mods, I know this should probably be in the troubleshooting section, but I need as many ideas about this problem....

If Internet Explorer is f*cked up and therefor scripts won't work, the installation of Norton will halt as it uses scripts. Try updating IE first, then installing NAV.

Yeah man.... my dream, my world, my assumptions.... besides, I already told you, it is more about beating that cheating son of a B!tch exroomie of mine than anything.... She is cool, but we have been friends for way too long for anything like that to happen. (besides, I tried already and she turned me down)

first go online scanning.. yeah takes time but atleast it will get rid of the antivirus.

www.antivirus.com the software is call housecall.. its in the free tools section I believe. You will need IE to get it to work. Netscape works but i prefer IE.

First scan with that, it should catch most viruses.. then after that is done install NAV. She must be doing something wrong in NAV because the rescue portion doesnt come up. Yes the damn thing hangs for a while but let it hang and it recovers. The first time you install NAV it asks you to make sure you not trying to disinfect a infected machine by installing it. Hence you use housecall to disinfect first, then you install it. If you need help let me know. NAV 2003 has improved a lot, but 2002 used to do that, pause during the startup of the rescue portion of it.. but give it time it fixes itself.
