HELP! Partition Magic just "lost" 7GB worth of data!

I've used Partition Magic countless times but never had a problem like this. I'm using PM 5.0 with Win98SE. I set PM to create a new logical FAT32 partition within an extended partition and walked away. When I came back 10 minutes later there was a lot of white asci-type text on a black screen. I rebooted and now find that the 21GB logical partition I was taking space from is "unformatted." I tried Windows Explorer and Norton DiskDoctor but neither one reads anything on the partition.

Have I really lost 7GB worth of data. (I have a lot of it backed up but still...) Is there any way I can recover it?

well, the same company puts out "Lost and Found" and claims that it can recover data from any kind of disk disaster, including partition loss, formatting, etc.

Just bought a copy of "Lost & Found." This better work or there goes $75 down the drain... 🙁

Dan..........

Should I assume..........( and I hate to do that ) that you or it recovered the lost data?

Yes, we'd like to know.

Did you run partinfo....or whatever on PM? Did it show Pqrp? I dunno, something like that? If so, it can possibly be resurrected with a disk editor....or, I think PM now has that function within it? I once used, I think, Norton Disk Edit with Powerquest telling me how. It was just a matter of resetting the unknown partition to a good type of FAT partition. But, that was like PM 2.*. Also, someone outlined how to do this a few months ago. I don't remember what forum.
