HELP! Partition Magic 7 Problem

Hi, yesterday I decided to merge two partitions into one using partition magic 7, how I wish I hadn't!

It was supposed to move all data from my J drive and put it into my I drive and then extend the I drive to include the free space created by the simultaneous deletion of J.

Well, when you look in partition magic it says it has done this but when you look through explorer you cannot see any files although the size report shows that the files are still there.

I run scandisk and it picked up errors with the File Allocation Table which it supposedly corrected, this just seemed to leave me with thousands of .CHK files which I think perhaps relate to fragments or something.

I have then found that the drive is formatted as RAW rather than FAT32, how do I convert it as I am sure the data is still there!?

Thanx,

Corm

Run PM 7. It will show the RAW partition, and it will convert it to FAT32 or what ever you wish.

You probably did not specify FAT32 for the consolidation operation, or somehow inadvertantly set it to RAW. The default is usually "as is."

Ugh! Been there done that. But I never tried to fix it.. thats why I have everything backed up.

You should probably go to powerquest.com and ask this on their forum.

I did set it to FAT32 and partition magic detects it as FAT32 but windows recognises it as raw. When I do the error check with Partition magic it says that the FAT copies are not identical, One or more lost clusters and present (both multiple times) and then says there are too many errors to continue!

I have tried doing checkdisk in windows and in dos and it did manage to get back approx 7% of the files but saved the rest as .CHK files so there is stuff there but I cannot access it.

Another interesting thing is the fact that Win2k cannot read the drive at all when Win98 can but slowly. Anyone know how you chang .chk files into meaningful stuff?

Thanx, Corm

I'm almost in the same boat except the partition i have is labled PqRP and is not accessible.
when i fire up pqmagic it say it flagged the drive and asks me if i want to continue with merge but then just hangs i left it over night and next morning it was still hanging
anyway good luck
