Help! Packard Bell problem (ugh)

I just did a CPU and RAM upgrade on a friend's old P-B. Took a while to figure out how to get the case open. No problem with the upgrade, one jumper to change. Now when I boot the box, it recognizes the appropriate CPU and RAM, and gets on with initializing devices, and then: beep, beep, beep, "keyboard locked, unlock key switch" and continues to boot into Windows. However neither the keyboard nor mouse will work. This happened even with the original chip and ram after I opened the case. I think I must have tripped an anti-intrusion switch, but I can't find it.

Can anyone help?

I am surprised there's an anti-intrusion switch on a P-B, but your logic sounds OK if your observations are correct.

Look through the basic BIOS parameters for something related to keyboards or passwords.

Clear/reset the BIOS to defaults by using the appropriate jumpers on the board. Maybe try this first.

Ha! Found it! No switch, but a 2-pin header for a switch, which pins I must have bent into contact when I was cleaning out the case fan cage. Come to think of it, I'm surprised the damn thing had a case fan...
