HELP!!-- P4 Hyperthreading setup-Can't get to work

O.K. boys and girls..... I know I've seen it before here in the forums, but how do I set up a P4 Hyperthreader to run 2 instances of S@H? Guess who just picked one up! I'm doing basic setup (i.e. remove some programs, add some of my own) right now. 3:20 pm CST and I want to get S@H up and crunching for the TeAm ASAP.

Thanks in advance🙂

If you use SETI Driver, it will automaticall set maximum processes: 2 or you could type in any amount you like...😉

It's up and running now, showing 2 WU's being crunched at once. Driver says 2:43 for crunch time. Sound about right?

I'll know when my stats start climbing on Wed.😀

Da** thing was working fine, then all of a sudden it wouldn't connect. Tried downloading and reinstalling CLI, driver, and spy..... It does nothing. Machine was crunching, but not downloading or uploading. After reinstall, it does nothing. Tried 3.03 & 3.08....neither works. What is wrong? Every other program connects to the internet o.k., and Berkely is up and running.

Try one of the many queues provided by our fellow members. Every once in a while connections fail, but don't let it worry you. Just keep a sizable cache, & eventually it will connect.

My question is, why won't it download and upload WU's from Seti Driver? I had a cache of 10 in there, but it doesn't want to send them to Berkely. I even tried manually sending them, and no dice. Will it have to crunch all 10 WU's before it will send? I've never had a problem with any of the other computers using driver and spy. I just don't use Spy on that one as it crunches 2 at a time. Now, after reinstalling the CLI it would not even connect with Berkely to upload any work units. I really want to get it on line, but it's being a MAJOR PAIN!

firewall issues perhaps? what kind of message is it giving you when uploading/downloading? is it just timing out and say that no server exists or what?

Firewall is off, I get no error messeges. It gets as far as "connecting to server" in the command line and just sits there. I let it sit 20 minutes just to see if it would connect... No dice.

I was just playing with it, and Seti keeps locking up the computer. If I set the cache to 10 it will open 10 different command line screens all at once and lock the computer up! I'm to the point now where I'm getting tired of trying to set it up on that machine, although it would be nice to have an extra 12 - 16 WU's a day.

Sounds like you are running 10 different processes at once :Q
Make sure you set Desired cache size to the number of WU's you want to cache, and Number of Processes to 2 😉

I deleted the Seti setup totally, copied it from another rig to that one, and it started working! I wonder if maybe the download was corrupt. Right now it's still working o.k., I'll see how it goes later today when I get home.

Thanks for the help TeAmmates!!!🙂

I've had problems when I first started out, when I was trying to transfer uncompleted wus between comps. I think the mixing of .sah files from different computers is a no-no. Anyways, I usually would of deleted everything & started over like you did.

Now don't touch anything. Matter of fact, set the seti@home folder to hidden just to be on the safe side.😛

Hey, I'm going to bump an old thread!!!

I set my Max Processes to 2, but it is still using only 50% of my processor - or one "thread". Once thread of the CPU shows 100% usage when idle, the other is doing nothing at all.

Any further suggestions?

Don't know if this will help you.

Windows quirk: task manager says ~50% when one process is running even though that process is using ~100%

I think the only thread that will say 100% is System Idle Process if no resources are being used.

If you have two processes running each should read ~50%

Look in "Task Manager". It should show 2 instances of whatever you are running under "processes". Each one should be about 50%.

BTW, are you running the CLI or graphics version?

Thanks for the replies all ... for some reason, I had to reboot after I saved the 2 Max Proc. setting, but after my machine came back up it was fine... it's now using a true 100% of my processor. Excellente!

Thanks again,
tghh

Same here too. Always thought the HT feature on this P4 3.0E GHz is a white elephant ....until now. Parallel and distributed, babyyy....

Here's to a productive time with Team Anandtech!
