I cant seems to overclock my cpu to 2.4 ghz, I can get it to run at 2.3 ghz,

setup:

P4 1.8 Ghz Northwood
Epox 4SDA+ mobo
256 Crucial DDR 2100 ram
Geforce Ti 500
Soundblaster Audigy Platuim

at the moment I have these setting in the bios.

FSB = 128
V.core 1.65V

If I increase the V.core to 1.70 will i get that extra 100 mhz.
but I have the standard intel cooler and will that handle the overclock.

if I increase the FSB to 133 windows 2000 pro come with an error and say some file are corrupt, then when I lower the FSB everything works fine.

can some one tell me the optimal setting for the bios to get the processor to run at 2.4 ghz

thanks.

I'd say your processer probably won't run at that speed if it can't even load windows. The only other thing you could do is raise the voltage.

I agree...raise your FSB to 133 and make sure your memory is still set to run 1:1 and raise your voltage until you can get into windows. Then run MBM or some voltage/temp monitoring program and run prime95 at the same time. If your CPU temp is getting higher than 50C you may need to cool your cpu down more. Otherwise just keep increasing the cpu voltage until you can get into windows and run prime95 for 24hrs without any errors and your cpu temp stays at confortable levels.

Sorry to tell you but you're 1.8A is most likely not capable of 133fsb. A few OC'ers, including myself, got the 1.8A thinking that it would be easier to hit 2.4Ghz... absolutely not the case!! It's tougher to hit 133fsb with the 1.8A than the 1.6A. The most I could get with my 1.8A was 2.2Ghz stable. I could NOT hit 133fsb even with an AVC Sunflower and the VCore maxed-out! I sold my 1.8A and got a 1.6A instead. Now, my 1.6A is running at 2.5Ghz stable with vcore at 1.7v.

Guess what. I got it running at 2.4 ghz , 133 mhz fsb, vcore @ 1.75, but the temperture seems to increase to 60 oC when running 3d marks 2001 and when its doing nothing its about 40 oC, i have the standard cooler, but i should be getting a new cooler friday, is the temperture normal for such an overclock.

40C is just about right with that voltage and a stock HSF. 60C at full load is a little high tho! A better HSF should help. Congratulations on that OC!!

Raise your memory voltage to +.2, and that should do it. You'll be fine with the Intel heatsink up to about 1.7 volts. I'm running my 1.6a at 1.625 volts and +.2 for cheap pc2100 memory.

When you get into the mid to high 1.7's with any Northwood, the temps will approach 60C. A better cooler like the AVC Sunflower will take a few degrees off that, but still expect 58ish. A much better solution would be a swiftech or alpha, but these will require you to take the mobo out of the case to mount it.

If I could build mine all over again, I would have put a swifty or alpha on, but I am not about to take my mobo out at this point.

Yeah I'm attempting to o/c my p4 1.8a to 2.4ghz with retail cooler/thermal pad and I have the voltage pumped to 1.675 in bios (asusprobe reports 1.728-1.744) and my cpu ranges from 40c (idle) to 56c (max)....this is after I added 2 additional case fans to move the air around...with the voltage set a bit lower, prime95 crapped out after 11 hours! So i'm gonna keep increasing the core since the cpu temp doesn't seem to increase substantially anymore...

I was able to get to 2.4GHz as well at 1.7V but then the MB would beep at me indicating that the chip was throttling down even though I disabled the MB thermal monitoring. Very happy and stable at 2.3GHz...can run Folding@home and UT all day with no problems.

I was wondering why my P4B266-c mobo would start beeping when I was trying to overclock to 2.4ghz
