I plan on overclocking my Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 processor from 1.8 to 2.6 on the stock heatsink. My PC components are

EVGA Nforce 650i Ultra
Intel E6320 Core 2 Duo
OCZ 800mhz (2x1gb)
Leadtek 8800gts Extreme
Hiper 450W
Western Digital 160gb SATA
CDRW drive
DVD/CDRW drive

I have very little experience with overclocking voltages. So I would like to know what would be the ideal voltages to overclock my CPU to that speed.

If you wouldnt reccomend overclocking an E6320 to 2.6 on the stock heatsink and fan, then what speed would be the safest to overclock using standard cooling?

thanks

Bump FSB up to 372MHz. No need to raise Vcore and other settings. Make sure the RAM is lock at 400MHz or you could also use 1:1 memory divider (372MHz). Read the PDF manual.

If it can do 2.6ghz on stock voltages, and when running blend orthos the temps stay below 60c, then you should be fine. You're ram can handle it, so I simply suggest cranking up your FSB to 370-375, times 7 should equal near 2.6ghz. If it boots into windows, and is stable under orthos blend and doesn't heat up past 60c under blend * keep in mind you need some headroom concerning ambient temps that could go up * and you're good to go. If it doesn't stay stable, you need more voltage to either your cpu and/or NB.

1.45vcore should be safe for your CPU, but it's a tad high, and I doubt your stock HSF will be able to keep it below 60c when it's at 2.6ghz as well. So if all that doesn't work, back down, and go for 2.4ghz or so, which will most likely be achievable on stock vcore.

Make sure you read a guide though, from graysky for exampe, it's on the second page, theres things you have to disable like EIST and stuff, but theres no need for me to go into all that since those guides tell you exactly what to do.

C1E and EIST should not affect overclock speed on a well-designed board. The key is to stick with the default CPU multiplier. I have them ON with my Abit IP35-E/E4300 (3.46GHz @ 1.46Vcore) and E6320 (3.42GHz @ 1.5Vcore). The stock cooler is good up to about 3GHz with 75F max ambient temperature.

Make sure to set your vcore manually in bios, if you leave it on AUTO the board will raise it as you raise FSB

Thanks for the replies. I tried what you guys suggested but i seem to top out at 2.16. Correct me if im wrong but is it necessary for my RAM to be overclocked when overclocking my CPU. because i have been using Ntune to overclock. and whenever i move the reference slider, it adjusts the FSB and ram speed. I can't access my CPU speed from the BIOS either. any more suggestions?

What's the best program to measure CPU temperatures on the Core 2 duo? And when you say keep things under 60C, do you mean try to keep each core temperature under 60C?

YOU DID NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTION! Go into BIOS.

1. Lock Vcore between 1.325 and 1.350.
2. Lock RAM speed to 400MHz OR use 1:1 memory divider (synchronuous with FSB speed).
3. Lock RAM voltage to 2.1.
4. Increase FSB speed to 372MHz.
5. Save BIOS setting and reboot PC.

DO NOT mess around with Ntune.

I agree that you must be doing something wrong, no way your topping out at 2.1 with that chip

Chip may be able to hit 2.9 to 3.0GHz with no bump in Vcore. You may need to bump up Vdimm to 2.2 and 1:1 memory divider. Keep an eye on the NB heat sink. If you can't touch the heat sink for more than 15 seconds, then you need to add more air flow to reduce the temperature. Same goes with the SB (no heat sink).

i dont thinki will be able to use 1:1 beacuase my ram gives up before 2.6 using 1:1. right now i have my ram and FSB speed unlinked. How do i adjust the Vdimm though? And one more thing, does my FSB speed has to go up to around 1400 when overclocking . Or is it not neccesary to increase?

RAM should be good up to 400MHz or 2.8GHz CPU core speed. Almost any quality DDR2 800 can be overclocked to 440MHz speed with 2.1-2.2Vdimm and 5-5-5-15-2T timing. Use Memtest86+ to check your RAM. Read you manual to adjust these parameters.

Well, i thought i was finished but then i noticed artifacts twice in 2 games. I havent done any GPU overclocking so i reverted the original CPU clocks. Is it possible that a CPU overclock could cause artifacts in a game? And if so, will the effect go away after reverting or is my CPU damaged?

DS3 locks the PCI-E bus at 100MHz when you overclock the FSB, and cannot damage the GPU unless you do something stupid in the BIOS. Problem could be coming from RAM. Why are you NOT TESTING RAM?!!!

No, its not my GPU, when i reverted back to the standard clocks, the artifacts went away. I tested my CPU and RAM stability at 2.6 on orthos and everything went well. So my main question is, can the CPU cause artifacts in games because of an overclock?

YOU NEED TO RE-READ MY PREVIOUS POST! Othos does not adequately test RAM. GOOG "locked PCI-E bus". If there is no issue with Memtest (2 hours with test #5), then you may have a marginal PSU, or inadequate cooling of the northbridge and southbridge chips. That EVGA board runs HOT, especially if you have poor case ventilation. Need to provide better cooling of NB and SB (currently no heat sink).

My 2nd cousin is good with overlocking and is gonna come over sunday and overclock it for me with a zalman cooler to over 3ghz. so i set everything back to normal.

On the GPU issue, today, i noticed no artifacts and gameplay was as usual. I ran 3dmark 06 and got the same results i got without before overclocking 7900-8000 (8700 with overclocking). Everything seemed fine right? Well, i ran all the Nvidia 8800 demos (froggy, smoke) but when i ran Adrianne, i got very slow FPS, usually, this demo ran pretty smoothly. I find this very weird because all of my games ran fine and i got the same bench scores. But with that demo, my pc lagged
