Getting 5 GHz on any FX chip is hard to achieve. You need a really good motherboard and cpu cooler and case cooling in general. You also need a good chip. You also need a good amount of knowledge and experience overclocking FX cpu's and the 990FX chipset in general. This week I tried to overclock my 4350 for the first time, I've read online or people getting 5ghz without much trouble but I've hit a limit at 4.6, I've adjusted all the bios settings and I've tried different voltages but no dice, any ideas?
yepCraptacular, Maybe because he doesn't want or need to do a wholesale upgrade?
the problem isnt cooling it is way under 70cWraith cooler is a no for a sustained OC. Try use this. It's quite cheap and it might help you achive better OC than wraith.
I deduce yours is limited by motherboard. But 4.6 is pretty high for Bulldozer CPU.the problem isnt cooling it is way under 70c
