Here is my setup:

Abit KR7A-RAID
Athlon XP 1700+
Crucial PC2100 DDR
Gainward Ti4200 128MB AGP 8x
Swiftech watercooling

Now the problem I am having is that I can't run the FSB more than about 138-140MHz max or the system will not boot into Windows. I know that my RAM is only PC2100 and I'm going to try a friends PC3500 to see if that helps. I have read online about a lot of people getting over 2.0GHz from this chip. Also I have see a few pages that talk about unlocking the clock multiplier on Athlon XP's, but they always show the brown packaging and my is green. I did see one website that unlocked an XP 2100+ with the help of a drill to the packaging itself. Can anyone post a link to a site that gives step by step instructions on how to unlock the multiplier on my chip? Also what kind of results do you guys/gals think I can hit with this setup?
Thanks,
Michael

Stop thinking like an Intel user, and change the multiplier, not the FSB. I don't know if your board will allow this without unlocking the CPU. If not, you have two choices -- Learn how to unlock it, or get a newer board that allows you to select another multiplier whether or not the chip is unlocked. I know nForce2 boards do, and my own DFI AD77 Infinity (VIA 400 chipset) does.

Changing the multiplier lets you o/c your CPU as far as the chip and board will allow without also o/c-ing your peripherals.

I'm running an XP1800+, B step. The default setting is 133 x 11.5. I've played with o/cing it as high as 1.995 GHz (133 x 15). It wasn't stable, there, but I've run it for several hours at 1.795 GHz (133 x 13.5), and it was pretty good. I got a 2.5 deg. C temp rise to around 33 deg. C.

well...

i think you need to find out if your board has an agp/pci lock because that may cause a problem at high fsb settings...

Ok, I tried to change the clock multiplier in the BIOS, but the CPU speed did not change. I have ordered an Athlon XP unlocking kit from www.highspeedpc.com. Hopefully I will be able to jump the L1 connections and unlock the CPU. Do you all think that the PC2100 RAM could be holding me back at only 140+MHz FSB? Also I the only two setting I have for the AGP : PCI : FSB ratio is either 2:4:1 or 2:3:1, not a lot of help there.

you should probably get at least 2700ram and overclock that to 2-2-2-6 so you can get 400mhz make sure you raise the vdimm voltage and have ram heatsink on it

I have tried to raise the core voltage each step up to the max of 1.8v. That did help some but I can't get anything over 143MHz FSB. If I do the system will boot, try to load Windows and then suddenly restart. I'll try the faster RAM in a week or two when I get it.

I upgraded to the newest version of my BIOS and I was able to push the FSB to 149MHz. This gave me a CPU speed of 1640MHz. My Athlon XP unlocking kit should be here today or tomorrow and we will see what I get once I unlock it.
