Help overclock amd xp2100 t-bred

I want to overclock my amd xp2100 t-bred. I was messing around and had it up to 2.09GHz safely just by changing the fsb in my bios. Here are my specs:
amd xp2100 t-bred
MSI K7N2 (Nvidia nForce2) mb
1.0 Gig PC3200 RAM
PNY G-force 4200 64 Megs DDR RAM
What do I need to do to really get this sucker cranking?? How do I unlock this chip? I would appreciate any help I can get.
Like I said b4, I adjusted the fsb up to 160 and used a burn-in program for almost 3 hrs without a hitch. No temperature problems or anything...I know I canget this faster though. Please help.

i think i can help as i have both this board and cpu. lets assume you've already flashed your bios to the latest and also have a tbred 'b' chip. first off you are going to HAVE to do the wiretrick in order to unlock the multipliers (yes they're there but not really usuable until you unlock the chip). it's very easy, all you need is some copper speaker wire which you connect to holes on the socket with. here is a picture of where to do it. your cpu will be tight but it will fit, just a 'little' more snuggly.

now your chip is unlocked and you 'can' use the multipliers. the first thing to do to see if the wire trick was successful is to boost it up to 166FSB (make sure your running your mem in sync with the cpu 1:1) and then lower the multiplier to 12.5. i'm assuming youc an't get the system to post at anything higher then 160FSB. if the wire trick worked then 166x12.5 should post easily and run everthing fine. after that it's really up to you where to go. you should easily be able to get up to 200FSB with that RAM (assuming it's good ram?) just make sure you lower your multiplier and raise your vcore appropriately to maintain stability. but all that is a matter of testing yourself, you'll eventually find a sweet spot.

i'm currently at 190FSBx11 but i only have pc2700 ram. hope that helps and good luck! let us know how it turns out.

oops....sorry bout that....
Please bare with me as I am new to this.... How do I know if it is a B chip? SANDRA 2003 has it listed as 7th generation.


Copper wire trick? I have heard of using gel on the L ports and the pencil trick, but the copper wire trick I have no idea about.

there is a product number on the chip it should same something like AIUHB or JIUHB if it's a 'B' or AIUHA if it's an A.
basically to do the wiretrick, take out a strand of copper wire from some speaker wire and place one end in one hole and the other end in the other, it should sorta look like the pic i posted (note the yellow markings on the lower left side of the socket).

ok...got it...one , more dumb question....does it matter which 2 holes I use for the wire? I am thinking no, but I am new to this...

one other thing....what kind of cooling setup do you have? and could you tell me what your current settings (fsb,multiplier, voltage, etc..) are at so I can use them as a reference point? Thanks for all your help...I will let you know how it goes. Oh, one other thing, Do i have to adjust my agp/ pci slots in the BIOS?

do a search for 2100+ or 1700+ and you'll find a nice long list of overclocks that people have done with their chips and at what vcore, cooling and everything else you want to know

on most nforce2 boards, the pci frequency is locked at 33 mhz but if it isn't, then make sure you set it to 33 or else you will kill things in your pci slot... also fix the agp frequency to 66 mhz so you don't kill your video card as well...

or if it has dividers, use the dividers... at 166 mhz on the fsb you should use a 1/5 divider and at 200 a 1/6 divider

I'm new to this as well, what and how do you mean by keeping the fsb in sync with mem? I have PC3500 RAM.

Also, would this trick work if i did not unlock the multiplier?

keeping the FSB and memory in sync means running the memory and FSB at the same clockspeeds
this can improve performance in many cases

yes the holes are SPECIFIC.. once again see the pic. as far as running the memory and cpu in sync.. there is a 'ratio' option in the advanced chipset section. just select 1:1

My apologies but does that mean if the FSB is 166, my ram (PC3500 which is 433), will run at 166 as well!??

Can you do the unlocking trick with any motherboard or is this only for this specific MSI motherboard?

i know it's not specific to MSI (all nforce boards should be able to do it but asus doesn't need to as it's already unlocks the chips) but i'm really not sure it works on 'all' motherboards. i would guess it's bios specific (bios's that have multiplier adjustments).

ok, at the risk of sounding dumb....Is it possible that my chip is already unlocked?. I ask this because I was just in my bios and it lets me select the CPU Ratio (anywheres from 7 to 13) and Vcore. After that, I read in a forum that alot of the 2100xp T-breds are unlocked already. Any help would be nice.

no even though they are there, they are ununsable (and by this i don't mean you can't select them because you can but it won't work) until you perform the wire trick. this is an issue with the board. as far as i know only the epox and asus boards actually unlock the chip w/o having to do the trick.

believe me i struggled this for the longest because i was under the same impression that 2100's are 'unlocked' (misconception) from the start and that i should easily be able to just do oc'ing on the msi board w/o any hacks. before i did the wire trick i couldn't get the FSB past 155 and when i tried using the multiplier settings w/o the trick it would 'appear' to work but i'd get massive post problems and i never got to windows.

after the wire trick i'm up at 190FSB x 11 rock solid and stable.

So a EPOX 8RDA+ doesn't need the unlocking trick for a 2100+ tbred b right? Or is it only for the newer ones?

also, could someone explain to me what the four numbers corresponding to memory timings mean? i see 6-2-2-2 but i dont know what they mean? I mean, I don't know which four memory options in that order!

Also, does the 8RDA+ Epox motherboard pci/agp lock also does it automatically unlock tbred b?

Thanks for everyones help...This is what I ended up with...195FSBx11 solid and stable....temp runs at about 42c with a load.....This chip rocks. Thanks again!!!!
