hey everyone, i will soon be entering the realm of computer building, and i was looking for a bit of advice.

i've priced out the following on newegg for around 1300 (after shipping).

p4 2.6GHz 800FSB
ASUS P4P8000 deluxe (865)
seagate 120GB (8MB cache, 7200RPM blah blah)
retail ATI radeon 9700PRO all in wonder 128MB
2x512MB corsair pc3200 platinum
chieftec server chassis
enermax 350W
lite-on DVD
samsung 3.5"
two cooler master blue led case fans (for character!)
microsoft i.e. keyboard (just found out it is out of stock, blah)

i've been doing my best to do some research on the components through reviews on the net, or through the consumer reviews on newegg.

as expected, no product seems to fully please all the individuals who have purchased it (particularly in the newegg reviews). you guys seem awfully consistent and knowledgable about these sorts of things, so i was hoping for some advice.

but first, i would like to explain my situation a bit:

1. i don't care to spend more than 1300 or so.

2. i'm not really looking to overclock (at least initially)- my mobo and memory choice were of the logic that if they're good for overclocking, they're probably fantastic for normal clock speeds. in the event that i choose to OC later, i'll be able to.

that said, i'm rather concerned with the choice of power supply (since i'll be powering a 9700p AIW). i'm also worried about memory/mobo compatibility. any vignettes about your troubles or happiness with the corsair/ASUS combo would be most appreciated.

so, that said, whatcha think? anything i should change?

thanks in advance!

Everything looks good, enermax make good PSU's, that psu should be more than enough to power that rig. BTW newegg has refurb 9700 PRO AIW for only $267. I assume your using a the retail HSF, that should be sufficient but if you plan on overclocking later I would recommend going with an SLK800U. Is that hard drive serial ATA? Get a serial ata version because it supports ATA150 and can be used in RAID if you'd llike.

It looks great right now. Do you have a cd-burner? They come in handy once in a while. Lite-On makes a pretty good combo drive for about $60.

I value my sanity, so I always reccommend a quiet HSF. The Zalman cnps-7000 seems to be pretty good. I don't have any personal experience with it, but I've used the cnps-6000 on a few AMD systems. They're great for the price.

Your power supply should be fine. If you're concerned, you could always get an Antec truepower 430 or a Fortron 400, but I think that Enermax will be fine.

There was a little snafu between corsair and Asus on the A7N8X, but they worked that out quickly enough. You shouldn't have any problems.

As far as advice goes, be sure to load the Fail-Safe BIOS defaults when you first boot up. =P Once you get Windows and everything loaded, then you can start tweaking for monster performance.

You could get a 2.4C instead of the 2.6 to save a little cash. The 2.4 is fast enough on its own, and when you want to, it will overclock like a monster. =) The 2.6 is a great proc, but if you're on a budget, I'd go with the 2.4 and a Zalman HSF.
