Want to earn some $$$Money$$$ for your computer?s spare CPU cycles.

I would like to pay you for your computer?s spare CPU cycles to help TeAm AnandTech SETI and The_TeAm.

What do you have to do?

Install SETI on your computer and run it for credit to my mini-team, ?TeAm Smokeball?, which is a member of TeAm AnandTech SETI.

Here are all of the details of the ?Money for SETI WUs? Offer

My goal is to enhance the statistics of both The_TeAm and TeAm AnandTech SETI. In the past I have done so by building my own computers or recruiting others to join TeAm Smokeball.

I have offered in exchange to those that have joined TeAm Smokeball a modest amount of Technical Support and even light repair service for their personal computers. I have just about run out of friends to recruit and my time is pretty filled with providing support to those who have already joined.

Recently I noticed where one of my good friends and fellow TeAm Mate has conducted a ?contest? where he will give away a computer to the person who crunches the most WUs for his account in a month. This seems to be working out pretty good. I decided that instead of giving away one of my computers or building new ones I would just pay others to run SETI for me. That way each and every participant will earn something for their trouble ? not just the winner.

Many of the computers I have built in the last year or so are used for only one purpose ? to run SETI. Laugh because I am. :D :D That really is a waste. Not IMHO because running SETI is a waste of time, it is just that those computers could also be doing many other things. So it occurred to me that instead of spending money building new computers to run SETI, it would be more efficient if I just paid others to run SETI on their computers for me. That way, their computers would continue to do other useful things and while idling, crunch SETI WUs. :)

If you think you might be interested, just read Money for Seti WUs Offer and follow the instructions.

Great deal, let that computer earn its keep on the electric bill :)

I joined the SETI on JAN 7 2003, and have turned in about 750 units.

For those who are curious, I never even know its running, doesnt effect a thing during day to day operations.

I do shut SETI down during gaming and stuff, due to some overheating issues, due mostly to the stock cooling that I run.

If you are wondering, just do it, its not a lifelong commitment or anything, if you absolutely dont like it, just un-install it.

i'd just donate it to charity or something...why do people feel the need to buy 5 top of the line pcs just to make em run some DC client 24-7?

I never got that whole "tea m this team that " mentality... the whole point of DC is to use the idle equipment in order to do methematical analysis...who cares that your 'farm' completes some arbitrary # of workunits per month

I'm not here to sell SETI to you or anyone. Just looking to get some help with the project and I'm willing to pay for it. ;)

This is a reminder. Once you have setup SETI and have downloaded the 1st WU, you need to contact me via email so we can name the account to whatever you want it to be and have your permanent private PORT NUMBER assigned. ;) :)

I just joined up. YHE! :) Uhh... right now it's downloading a lot of data. Is that right? The DOS window just reloads itself and downloads what I think might be processing units..???

What is a WU, and how many does the average person get per month? (with a 1.5GHz computer or somewhere around that)

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I want to know how many people out there leave their boxes on just so they can crunch DC projects. I know there's plenty. For those who do, its basically disregarding one of the "rules" of DC.

Here is a link to the members of TeAm Smokeball SETI

The above list is sorted by average processing speed ... fastest to the slowest.

Gasparrini #1 is using a P4 1.5GHz Hewlett Packard and looks to be averaging 4.46 WUs @ day.

Scubado is using a 1800+ Xp system and is averaging 6.38 WUs @ day.

Capt'n Rick #1 is using an OCed 2100+ XP and is averaging 7.46 WUs @ day.

My personal computers (Smoke #1 - Smoke #9) are self-descriptive. :)

It took my last computer (not the current one) 14 to 17 hours to crunch one WU. I don't think I comply for that. So if I make 2 WUs a day... That's 2 cents. I know I need something more powerful, he-he.
