Those could be sandfilled or cement filled. Cement filled will tend to crack over time as the cement expands and contracts with temperature.

If you want good weights go with metal. Usually you can find a 310lb set with barbell for <$100 at sports store.

Those are definitely not iron weights. The weights are made of hard plastic and they are filled with something - I am not quite sure what you can hear stuff bouncing around in some of them as they get older. I always wanted to break one open and find out. :)

$30 dollars sounds like a reasonable price for those. If you go to a sporting goods store a 130lb weight set with a bar bell and dumb bell will run you somewhere around $100. I think most of new sets are cast iron anymore.

Avoid these. Sand/concrete filled weights are a HUGE waste of money. You want iron weights. If you want to get pricy, they have rubber covered iron weights.
