help on video card

im looking at an ati x800xl from newegg for 279
i need a video card that will last a while and play the newest games
im the kind of guy that cant really tell the difference in all the frame rates just so it doesnt look jumpy and i want the highest settings
please reply with any suggestions for PCI express
on an asus p5gdc-v deluxe
2.8 p4
1 gb of ram

The x800xl is what I got. Its running Doom 3 and Farcry very nicely too.
