help on p4 1.6a overclock problem (on asus p4b266-c )

Hi guys,

My 1.6a overclocked well to 2.1 Ghz on Asus p4b266-c MB for a year and half. Couple weeks ago I bought a 160G WD drive, and
upgraded the bios to support large hard drive. However, after upgrading the overclock stops working. The system just hang there shortly after w2k boots up. First I thought it was my 300W power supply problem, so upgrade it to Antac 430w, however, the problem is still there. Antec 430w should be enough to handle two HDs, right? So I believe it is not the power supply problem, then it must be the Bios problem, correct? I observed that at 2.1 Ghz, the VCore could be 1.76v or 1.54v (large HD disabled), but no matter what votage it is, system keeps hanging. Does it really mean that the new Asus p4b266c Bios doesn't
support overclock? or any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What Vcore were you using all this time? It's possible it's exhibiting the symptoms of a damaged CPU, I'd reflash the old bios to see if your theory bears out. BTW, if it ain't broke, don't fix it is my mantra for bios upgrades, unless I have an issue the new bios addresses, or there are features the new one offers that I'm after, I don't bother with upgrading.

I used "auto" in my bios to select VCore, and I watched it is 1.74v+ or higher. For 1.6a, the range should be 1.5-1.75 around, right? the CPU is fine, because at default 1.6 Ghz, it works well. Thanks.

Guys, I figured out the problem, here is my valuable conclusion after a whole day labor: when you upgrade your hard drive to WD 137GB+, NEVER NEVER use the attached "Ultra ata100 TX2" card included in WD HD package, instead try to upgrade your MB bios directly to support large HD.
All my overcloking problems are generated by this piece of crap card! It seems that this card/bios can NOT work well under any bit of OC, and hang your system. Now my 1.6a works like a charm at 2133gHZ, with vcore 1.55V and case/cpu temp at 23/29.
