Hi all:

I downloaded the mandrakes files.... .but there are quite some different files...
there are the MandrakeLinux-8.1-Raklet-beta3-CD1.i586.iso file (the first disc...), the MandrakeFreq-20010810-inst.i586.iso, the
MandrakeSecurity-SNF.i586.iso file, and the corpo-1.0.1-i586-ext.iso file..... which one should I download to use linux mandrakes? and what are each one of these?

also, there are the inst and ext files (or disc 1 and 2), and disc 2 are just bunch of rpm files... what are those for?

lastly, what are the md5sum.*** files for? they include one for each file, but I have no idea what those are for..

many thanks!!

You only need inst to install and use Mandrake; ext means extra and really is just a set of optional packages (the installer will ask you if you have this cd. just say no if you only get inst, though I would recommend getting both). MD5sum is just a filetype to allow you to check the integrity of the iso file you download (basically it will tell you if the file is corrupted). I rarely bother with the md5's for anything I download.

Mandrake Freq is an updated version of Mandrake with all the latest updates... its for people who want a version that is updated "FREQUENTLY" get it?? instead of waiting for the next "numbered" version to come out.

Corp is for the Corporate Install of Mandrake which you prob dont want because its based on an older version...
