Easiest thing to do is not worry about timing. Just let off the clutch and floor the gas at the same time. You'll get going in no time.

😕

Okay, then how about this?

OP, just floor it and let the revs bounce off the limiter, and then drop the clutch and get ready for:

a) tire squeal galore
b) need for new tires very soon
c) need for new clutch very soon
d) all of the above

I'll let you guess the answer.

e) new transmission

The clutch will probably be fine..unless it was crappy to begin with. 😛

Stick is easy 🙂

Get a VW Jetta, they don't stall 🙂 heheheh

I was able to start out in 3rd gear, not stalling jolting, or anything........

Keep your foot on the brake, slowly ease of the clutch until you feel it starting to grab and make the car move.

At that point, leave your clutch foot where it is, hovering at the point of where it starts to grab.

Slowly let off of the brake and give it a little gas.

Now, theoretically you can leave it just as this point without completely letting off teh clutch but that will eventually burn out your clutch, (riding the clutch).

Now, slowly let off teh clutch.

Just be patient, take your time...... don't do what I did my first time learning and think you have to pop the clutch and slam the gas as fast as you can........ this isn't the "Fast & The Furiuos" hahaha

Good luck 🙂

Jer - I'm in the same boat - I recently learned how to drive a stick. The lurching is b/c you just don't have the timing down. You have to get the timing down when you fully let out the clutch or are about to - that's where the lurching is taking place at for the most part.

Lurching is caused by the engine RPM being in too low in the current gear - not enough torque.
It's more about coordinating the release of the clutch and applying enough throttle, not timing.

😕
In other threads you mention how you know how to drive manual but you prefer autos.
Now you say you just learned?
Which is it?

the clutch should go before the tranny...as long as you arent grinding the gears and proper maintainence has been performed
