Not a very clear title, but...
Does anyone know how to play counter strike using mulitple computers on one connection using a router?

Using Linksys 4 port hub/switch/router

Problems with connection when two or more computers are playing counter strike at the same time online.

Anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks...

thanks for the replies...problem fixed changing nics and adding a different port # on the shortcut of cs

Unfortunately the new Half-Life netcode does not allow players to share an IP address.:(

yeah they do, my bro and i is in the same situation and we can still play on the same server at the same time with the same IP. We're using the LinkSys 1-port router connected to a 5-port switch

Is NAT set up to pass the appropriate ports? Do both internal IPs work by themselves, or does only one work?

What exactly is the problem. You can't connect with the other computer or does it just take a really long time. Two computers playing CS online decreases the throughput of whatever connection you have.

Datafly: I think not, my bro and I play all the time. HL, CS and even a little TFC. We have a cable modem with a Netgear router doing NAT. Works fine.

Thanks for the replies.

The problem, assumed, is the router, but maybe some of you can point out what it really is if it isn't the router.

The computers can play in a game, but only one at a time.
When another computer enters an internet game, the other gets a warning:
connection problem on the top right screen.

Sometimes 2 computers can play in the same game, but after 5-30 minutes (random) the connection warning sign appears again.

I'd have no problem with a red warning sign on the right corner, but the game just stops and you have to reconnect.

Alpha, did you forward a certain port or anything?
I heard about changing a port but wasn't clear about how to do it and what port to use. You don't just click on the game and both get in that easily do you?

I remember someone on this board saying once that your router (I have the same) is not very good for gaming. Could it be an issue specific to the router and the built-in firmware?

I don't have any solid info for ya though :( I don't use my router for gaming.

upgrade firmware linksys.com ...if that doesn't help go take it back if you can and get the netgear router (it actually works in CS). Good luck.

hmm...just updated the firmware...it could be specific to the router.

Might be getting an SMC router. Anyone know if that's good?

I have an SMC router and love it, I always play CS and FLF with another friend on at same time. I'm pretty sure I have two cd-keys since my friend installed his cd on the other comp.

If you don't actually play on the net with another person, there isn't even any WON authentification. That's why you can use one CD-key for as many people as you want on a LAN, but not when you want to play on the net. The Connection Problem warning pops up whenever I start lagging out when I had dail-up. Seriously, what's the bandwith of your broadband connection? Sharing one line kills the throughput.

it's about 512k
don't know if the sharing is killing the connection, cuz both pings are about 50-60.
Warning just randomly appears. Sometimes just for one computer, sometimes both.

Thanks...

Seems that the problem still exist.

<Note that we continue to receive reports of players getting kicked off Half-live servers that are behind the Linksys. No solution has been found for this problem.>

I guess i'm one of those players...

Losty, I have the EXACT same problem as you in CS and Starcraft on Battle.net. I really hate this router when it comes to gaming :( Apparently, if you try to join the same server, it will lag like hell. However, if on one computer u join one server and the other computer u join another...the connection is as smooth as silk. I would love to find the answer to this problem as well, as I would really like to be able to play with my friends online at home.

i heard the smc router is really good... dang i thought this thread was dead :)
anyhow...might as well update...my roomates and i came up with the idea of the linksys router conflicting with the network card ... and well it was a realtek nic btw...changing it to smc nic worked...

cs ping average doesn't change when we are in the same game...3 computers working on it now :)

haven't played starcraft in a year...didn't try it yet...
also you might want to change the shortcut to cs adding a different port at the end of the shortcut ie 27006 instead of the default (which i think is 27005 not sure forgot) ... and it should work....

what router are you using?
