help on configuring dsl connection sharing

Senior member
I'm trying to share my dsl connection between my pc, which has win2k pro, and my laptop which has win98SE; i have dsl thru southwestern bell in austin, and it uses that enternet v.1.5 software. If i click on my network dial up connections in the control pannel
i see the following:

screenshotscreenshot
so again
on my network and dial up connections i have the following:
local area connection 2 :Kingston EtherRx KNE111TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.
local area connection 5: Efficient Networks Enternet P.P.P.o.E Adapter
and the new nic card is
local area connection 6: D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter
now, i'm not sure which of the three am i supposed to enable the sharing with. Also not sure if i have to put any manual ip addresses on any of those connections....
i tried the enable sharing on connection 2 and that didn't work...also, not sure if i'm suppose to enable anthing on the laptop.
i've gone to a couple of websites where they have some info but none of them talk abou tthe pppoe, and i don't know if that's any different.
Also, i just noticed that the cat5 cable that came with the dsl modem is a bit different than the one i bought. The one what came with the modem says 4PR cat5 and the one i bought says 2PR and is not as thick as the other one.....i guess this could be a problem..
HOpe somebody could help...
thanks

Why not use an ethernet adapter on the laptop? Then connecting to the PC is simple. Add a second NIC to the PC and connect to the laptop using cat5 crossover cable. Then you can use the win2k machine as a gateway and set up internet connection sharing. Set the laptop to use dhcp to automatically connect to the internet. Setting up ICS on win2k is a snap.

yeah...i do have that on the laptop...
i have all the necessary equipment...the ethernet adapter on laptop, two nics on my pc, and crossover cable...

the problem is that on the network and dial up connections on my pc
i see 3 local connections---2, 5 and 6....

local area connection 2 :Kingston EtherRx KNE111TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.( this what connects to the dsl modem)

local area connection 5: Efficient Networks Enternet P.P.P.o.E Adapter

local area connection 6: D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter
(this is the new nic i installed)

and i cant find specific info on which i'm supposed to enable...etc...
that's the main problem..
somebody had said that i should switch to raspppoe but that seems to be too problematic...and i don't want to mess up my dsl connection...as i've done that before and it took a couple of days to get it back up working...
thanks

I use Rasppoe. It works.

Read this: http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/win98se/intro.htm

-on the Host, enable ICS on your "Dailup" connection (Connection to 4870009) and set it to use the NIC that is connected to LAN. Set the TCP/IP on the DSL Connection to obtain everything automatically.

-on the Host, set the NIC connected to the LAN with a fixed IP (ie: 192.168.0.1 : 255.255.255.0)

-Set the other client computer(s) with a fixed IP (ie: 192.168.0.2) and use your Host IP (192.168.0.1) as the gateway.

That's how mine works. Again, This was helpful.
