Alright, heres the deal, im just about to start the process of building a comp. Ive been into comps quite awhile but untill now i have used Mac. I have a friend who is fairly knowledgeable about the building process as well as parts n such, but he is a little out of it as far as the best new parts ect. So without creating a enormous number of replys i am wondering if you guys can give me a kinda system rundown on what im gonna need as well as your suggestions about the best stuff.
Also, i would say its important to tell you that my budget for this project is approx $1200, this will include screen,speakers, mouse and all that, plus the machince itself as well as a decent screen to go along.

Post away!

P.s try to get it simple as im not up on all this stuff so make it easily understandable.

Welcome to the Forums 🙂 What types of things do you plan to use it for? The answer to that helps determine how much money should be put into the video card, how much RAM is advisable, stuff like that.

Right now go out and buy:

eVGA 133-K8-NF41 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
and
eVGA 256-P2-N518 Geforce 7800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card
$399Shipped Newegg

ok that was stupid not to specifi, it will be built for gaming, thats what i want it to do very well. of course ill use it for school, but i want it built for the best gaming you can get with $1200. i had planned on spending a large amount of that $1200 on video card and ram.

Basicly i want the best possible gamiing comp you cna get with $1200

(fricking sick of my totallly crap ass Mac)

forget eVGA parts ( 😉 ) cuz you can definitely do better. Do go with that 7800gt though.
I would also recommend the MSI SLI board, mainly because of it's onboard audio...

Finally someone who isn't a eVGA fanboy!!!! I think the MSI SLI board is a total waste though!! The combo eVGA deal is pretty good $399 for a decent board and nice 7800GT is a good price. I would go with this though.

MOBO=DFI Ultra D or Epox 9npa+ Ultra ($130 DFI $105 Epox)
CPU=Venice 3200+ ($170)
Video=x800xl ($235) or (7800GT ($345)
RAM=2x512 of OCZ Value ($100)
MONITOR=Hyundai 19" image quest (price depends on specials) (usually $300)
Sound Card=Soundblaster Audigy 2 Value ($40)
Speakers=Logitech Z-2300 ($100)
Mouse and Keyboard=Logitech LX700 wireless combo ($65)
DVD Burner=NEC 16x ($45)

Depending on the prices that you can find this should come in right about $1150-$1300.

Hope it helps.

alright, seems that no one disagrees with gamerexpress's oppinion so ill check that out.

Also, what do you guys think is the best place to buy, obviously some people like Newegg, but there is many others i know. So any suggestions?

GamerExpress's build is pretty good, i'd go for the epox mobo.
