I wanted this 9800Pro from newegg for around $200...but I need it urgently before friday Nov 12th , and now it's out of stock on newegg.com...

So I began looking for alternatives...and came up with some refurbs, I was wondering what exactly does refurbished mean? is there anything wrong with these cards? What exaclty comes with the card? ... anyone had experience with refurb video cards.

This was the one I was looking for originally...

PowerColor ATI Radeon 9800PRO, 128MB DDR, 256-bit.

And now I'm looking at these alternatives...

REFURBISHED: PowerColor ATI Radeon 9800PRO, 128MB DDR, 256-bit (Same as above, just refurb)

REFURBISHED: Celestica ATI RADEON 9800PRO 128MB DDR

POWERCOLOR RADEON 9800 PRO EZ Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-Bit

I know that you have your heart set on a pro. But Have you thought of a getting a 9800se. There is a 50/50 chance of softmodding this into a pro using Omega Drivers without artifacts. But be sure to get the right configuration if you do look for the "L" shape in the memory configuration, and be sure it is a 256bit memory interface. If you ordered this today and had it shipped 2nd day air you should be good to go.

Power Color 9800SE 128mb 256bit

Some of the cards that you listed are only 128bit memory which defeats the 8 pipeline pixel shader. So be sure to get the 256bit whatever you do.

Refurbs are things that were broken and have been fixed. The fact that even though they should work fine (and usually keep the warranty in case of another failure) and operate as good as new, they arent new - and therefore cant be sold as new, so instead are usually sold at a cheaper oprice as refurbished.

There is always a stigma attached to something that has been 'fixed', but usually you will get a perfectly good card, a bit cheaper and still in warranty. My advice is to ensure the warranty is still in place - if it doesnt retain its warranty, then don't risk it.

Hope that helps...

Would u consider another vendor? I know zipzoomfly is reputable. I baught the processor there that im now using to send u this message. I've also baught numerous other items from them and have gotten things just as well priced, and just as well sent as it was from newegg.

update: nevermind. i just checked zipzoomfly and found that there were no more 9800p's in stock for ~$200... Where are there cards going? Must be the x700/6600 series is replacing them so the 9800p is being discontinued. Someone must have a 9800p... I'll look more.

Another good idea is a 6800nu. Those can be found for around $250 and can be modded to be way better then what u paid for. If u get one that mods well, the deal is significantly better then a 9800p for $200. Actually, i remember them being ~22% faster stock as compared to a 9800p (this was argued way back when they were released on these forums) and for 25% more price increase, u cant go wrong. Even if u don't mod it, itll last u longer and is only a bit more. I highly reccomend this alternative.
