O.K. i have an Omni book 800ct with an EXTERNAL cd-rom drive 8x scsi2 interface. i have formatted my harddrive hoping to install Win98, but guess what, no scsi cd rom support on this win98 boot disk... can anyone give me some advice as what to do next, where to look for drivers, etc...

thanks in advance

You need to add an ASPI driver (get from SCSI card manufacturer) and the MSCDEX (get from MS, may be on win98 cd or boot floppy) driver to your win98 boot disk and then add the proper lines to your autoexec.bat and config.sys files to get the cdrom assigned a drive letter in DOS (win98 dos emulator).

You could also do something like copy the win98 cab files to a zip drive (parallel port version) then load the DOS zip driver from a floppy and copy the cabs files to your hard drive and then install from the hard drive itself, this works great.
