Are you by any chance running a 'pop up buster' of any sort? Ive once had a problem with one in particular, in which the 'buster' would close down anything new Id try to open...Including outside programs...

Sounds to me like you need to install XP from scratch. Problems like this are widespread after upgrades from 9x to XP, unfortunately. You can fark around from now until the cows come home and not find a fix.

Hey same thing happened to my GF's uncle when I installed Office for him - after formatting his Chinese version XP & installing English Win2K. Did you by chance install MS Project ? After I'd done that - other office apps would close immediately kinda like you describe.. There was another "part" of Project to install (2 checkboxs) but the Chinese characters were screwy & appearing as all ??? If u have MS Project - uninstall it & then Office, then re-install Office & it should work. Then be more careful w/ MS project.

Otherwise - no idea.

I've experienced this before.. what you need to do is uninstall/remove Office totally from your system. You need to clean up the registry as well. Although you uninstall Office, it still leave traces indicating it was installed on the machine before. You need to remove the registry key linking to Office. After removing the registry keys, then reinstall Office and it should be fine. I don't think this was mentioned in Microsoft support site. They just said to reinstall, which doesn't work most of the time.
