Help! Office 2000 docs won't open from Windows Explorer

When attempting to open an Office file from Windows Explorer, the following error occurs:

Cannot find the file 'X:\filename.doc' [or one of it's components]. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

Huh? Can't find it? I just double clicked it.

This occurs on a Windows NT Workstation platform with Office 2000.
