Somehow I've managed to avoid driving through the area even though I've lived in Jersey. I'm going out to Long Island tomorrow, I'll be coming from the south on the turnpike. What's the easiest way to get out to the LIE? Doesn't have to be the fastest or the shortest, just looking for the easiest route to take. If you tell me to take the Lincoln Tunnel, then thru Manhatten to the Queens Midtown Tunnel, please try to be as specific as possible, i.e., what do I do coming out of the Lincoln?
Many thanks for your help!

I've got directions. But there's still something to be said for a recommendation coming from a person who might be personally familiar with the area.

Hey,
I would really use mapblast.com ... but I'd take the lincoln to midtown tunnel (you'll see lots of signs) to the LIE

Given the fact that when I'm looking at houses on realtor's web sites in a city/area I'm pretty damn intimately familiar with, the "Map It" button is wrong by either blocks or miles 10% or more of the time, I'd want something more than online directions too. (Sorry, I don't know NYC, but the next time you're in Minneapolis, give me an address, and I'll give you great directions, and depending on the time of day, I'll help you avoid the usual traffic jams too.)

Turnpike > 440 south > outerbridge crossing > across staten island > long island.

Traffic = pure pain though so watch out if going near rushhour.

Best way I know to get onto the LIE is to take the 59th street bridge to the Grand Central then hop on the LIE.
