i'm trying to record something through the Line-In jack on my sound card, but i get a lot of pops and cracks and other noise... any way to solve this problem??

actually my Line-In jack works fine as a sound THROUGH, it sounds fine coming out of my speakers
only when i try to record does it have problems

i USED TO be able to record perfectly fine, but now it's horrible, i have no idea why. i haven't added any new hardware since i last recorded...

try muteing everything else (cd-rom, etc.) and you're not useing. That usually helps on analog recordings

Do you have your Sample Rate Conversion set to Best in your Multimedia control panel? That could be it. Also, while your in there, check that you have full hardware acceleration on your recording device.

ya i have it on Best

could the problem possibly be the input audio cable (although i've used it before with no problems)? or dust on my sound card? or...??
