I am a hardcore Noob so just bare with me.....

just put together a new computer, as its my first attempt i dunno what im doing...

here is what i got in there now

ABIT IS7
the chip
Radeon 9600
HD
OCZ 3200 dual chanel ram
cd drive

i power the sucker up and no post just a blank screen, tried a radeon 8500 in there, one stick of ram, and same deal. The card is firmly in there so i know its not a conection problem. There is a Red Led and a green on on on boot... this a problem?

Anyone have any suggestions? or some things i should run through to fix it.

thanks

the led is normal, that's your standby/power on light

From your description, I'd ask:

is your heatsink on properly?
do you have a good thermal contact (paste or grease)?

even if so, try reinstalling your heatsink

Also, check for bent pins on the processor. as long as the processor fit in the socket, I am sure it's compatible even though newegg and some other sources say that 400mhz fsb doesent work with IC7's, I can personally verify that to be untrue. Please post back with your findings.

thanks for the input,

ok, i riped out everything and then reseated the cpu, it seems to be firmly in place. I just got a stock heatsync on the cpu now. I just put the heatsync right on the cpu, no grease or nothing. I'm asumming that grey square bit of whatever on the the bottom of the heatsync should provide that function...

Good to hear the leds are normal

now trying just video, ram, mobo for post....

will post when it works.... or doesn't :-(

Btw, which dimm slots are the dual ones, the two middle ones right?

<EDIT>

No Dice,
Tried what i said i would do, and still nothing...

<EDIT EDIT>

K cleared the CMOS and it boots! horray!!!
goona test this sucker out tomorrow
