Help..no bootup "checksum error" post code 41

Mattlock

Senior member
I moved my computer from one room to the next and now I cant get it to bootup. (I did nothing to it)

Right before the bios "beep" I get the following message:

BIOS ROM CHECKSUM ERROR
Detecting floppy drive A media.......
Insert System Disk and Press Enter...

The post code is a 41 which says in manual "reserved"

My rig is an anthlon xp2100 overclocked to 12.5x180
MB: Epox 8rda+
RAM Corsair 512mb xms LL 3200

Any ideas?

have you checked to see if your hard drive is connected.

i assume it is, make sure the boot device is selected. try booting from a cd

no solution right now .. but ..

don't you hate it when hardware, computers act stupid cause you move them or something else absurd. seems like it always happens to me.

last week, i went to clean the grease off my cpu and dust on the heatsink. when i popped everything together, bios froze. can't enter cmos or anything.
- finally figured out it was my round ide cable. it went bad and had to replace.

today, i went to add the front audio ports (after 3 months) to the mobo and when i got it togther, my computer wouldn't read the ata controller. then it did but said i was using 40 pin wire and demoted me to udma 2. another smash and it was good.

all too weird.

bump for an answer.

I found this for somebody once before. 41 indicates an improper OC. Clear cmos and bring the clock speed down. See if that works.

Thanks...got it fixed...had to clear CMOS and boot with generic ram. I got the OC down and put Corsair back in....

thanks for the feedback everyone

whenevery you have inexplicable problems with the 8rda+, or the vast majority of motherboards, for that matte,r just clear the CMOS and start anew.

I got this error today too. After flipping the power switch to the O position and leaving it for five minutes, it was good again. Later, when I shut down and restarted, the same thing happened. So I flashed my bios, and it's good again thus far.

this might sound stupid but I got something along the lines of a CMOS checksum error when I mistakenly plugged my mouse into the keyboard port and the keyboard into the mouse port (neither are USB of course).

this is a long shot, hope u get ur problem resolved.
