HELP! newbie needs help on WEB TABLES!

im making a new layout for my site. im having trouble keeping the navigation bar intact because i am using tables. can someone help me out? heres what its spposed to look like

and lookit the navigation bar on the left! is all rpped apart! i think its trying to spread it out so it aligns evenly with the text in the cell to the right of it. how can i make it not do this? there has to be a way! u guys are all web design masters i need help! thanks much!

Go to sites and right-click in the browser and select "view source" you'll learn a lot. For this specifc problem you probably want nested tables something like

logo-banner row colspan=2

body row: col1 = menu table cell, col2= text/content cell

copyright row colspan=2
