Help! New WinXP install wont see promise Raid 0

I just installed my new Fasttrack 100 Raid card along with 2 Maxtor 40G drives.

Now, My current WinXP install sees the drives fine as 76G free with a 60G Primary Western Digital.

I am now trying to do a FRESH intall onto the blank 76G Raid0 drive. I copied the proper Promise drivers to a floppy, boot from a WinXP install CD and insert the Floppy.

The install sees the drivers on the Floppy after hitting F6 for other controllers. Then when it comes time to select a drive it states that no drives are present. Hmmm. I tried both the XP and Win2K drivers with no luck....

Any ideas??

When in the computer bios, do you have it setup to boot to SCSI? Your raid controller is seen as a SCSI device. Make sure you have no other HDD in the system with a bootable OS on it. It may be trying to boot to your IDE channels. Also make sure you have cmos set to NONE for all the IDE channels.

How about the cmos settings? And does your Promise controller detect the drives during the bootup process? Has an array been established on the Controller?

Also some bios will have a setting that specifically states to boot to the onboard controller. If you have that feature disable that, as it also will be seen as a SCSI device and onboard controllers always will have boot priority.

Currently I have a Raid 0 established, WinXP sees that when I boot up using my 60G drive. I can use the Raid with no problems, just not seen when I want to do a fresh install

You might need a primary IDE C:/ drive for XP to install some boot files. Then it might be able to install onto your RAID drive...just my guess I'm no RAID guru....

Your mobo bios may not be have extended bios enabled, or you may need to move the raid card up into a higher pci slot for it to load the promise card's bios.

Thanks, I will try moving it up to the 2nd PCI slot and see if that makes a difference. If I can't figure it out, the FT100 TX2 and 8KHA+ go up for sale and I will simply order an 8K3A+ 😀
