I just got done building a new system. Here are the specs:

Asus TUV4X mobo w/sound
Celeron 1gig 100mhz bus
256 kingston sdram
Maxtor 40.9 gig hd 5400rpm
ATI Radeon 7200 OEM with 6.13.3276 drivers
Win XP home edition
17" Philips 107s21 CRT

Here's what happened. It had been working flawlessly for the first day and I started installing a few things. I installed MSoffice 97, winamp 2.78, lexmark z42 printer drivers, and the win XP 3d screen saver. All worked fine and then I went to reboot. Now it starts up but there is nothing displayed when it should go to the welcome screen of winXP. All the startup boot screens are visible and so is the windows xp logo, but when it goes to the blue welcome screen where you can log in if there is more than one user, all goes black. I know windows xp loads all the way because I can hear the startup music and if I move my mouse around I can here when I click on the start button. Both the monitor and graphics card seem to work because I can see stuff on the screen before that. The only thing that is weird besides the black screen is the monitor keeps clicking every about every 5 seconds like multisyncs do when changing resolutions or refreshrates. Help! Anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix or trouble shoot this.

I have ZERO experience with XP, but if it was WIN98 and I was experiencing the same thing I would boot in Safe Mode, reduce the Video Card resolution to 640x480 16 colors and reboot.

I'm not usre if XP has a safe mode.

Good Luck.
