OK I was all exciter tonight to get my new abit IS7-G (865pe) installed.
everything else was old stuff, I am upgrading a little at a time.
cpu P4 1.9 400mhz bus (from a dell)
1 stick 256 pc2700 ram (no comments please)
ati 9100 pro w/ 128MB ram
tekram U160 scsi card
cheetah 15k.3 hard drive
cheapo 40x12x48 cdrw

300 WATT power supply

the dumb thing I did was I dropped the cpu in w/o lifting up the locking lever

:brokenheart:

I was in such a rush I forgot, somehow I got the retail intel heatsink installed on top of that. it was a little stiffer but not much😕

after it wouldn't post I found my error, the chip looks perfect, not a bent pin in sight it drops in and LOCKS fine.
I have only the 1 stick of ram, vid card and cpu installed. but it won't boot.
all the lights come on the fans spin but no video output, or POST beep.

EDIT: maybe a more powerful powersupply???

Don't despair just yet 🙂 I can't download the manual from ABIT, but look and see if it has:

  • A FSB jumper that needs to be set to 100MHz, or
  • A recommendation on which slots you can use a single stick of RAM in (some boards care)

Also make sure to really ream your video card into place firmly, since brand-new AGP slots can be stiff and there are two layers of contacts. Don't forget your (duh) secondary power plug for the mobo.

If nothing is helping, take the board out of the case, lay it on cardboard, and try it with nothing but the PSU, CPU/heatsink/fan, memory, keyboard and video card. Good luck mcveigh! 😀

thanks, i have been reseating the vid card several times (Ive had that happen before)
I'll check out all those damn jumpers...this thing has a lot.

see if u can help me here

i just returned an msi amd k7n2islr mobo back to newegg b/c i thought it was DOA

however after reading ur post.... here was my situation

i had everything installed correctly including amd athlon 2600+

but when i booted up, it froze on post screen and the diagnostic leds said initializng floppy drive and controller

u think if i had put the cpu jumper on 100mhz it would have fixed it?

The Athlon 2600+ comes in two "flavors," but neither one uses the 100MHz FSB setting, so I'd look elsewhere for the trouble. 😕 If the problems persist when you get your RMA back, post a thread here or over in Motherboards and PM me so I can check it out and throw my 2¢ in. Hope it goes better for you next time around, niwi7 🙂

I've had a problem like this before....make sure the bottome of the mobo isn't touching the case and shorting it out!

confirmed: it's the cpu this dell one uses 1.75v the abit only supports the

Intel Socket478 Pentium4 (0.13 micron, 1.525/1.530 V, 512K L2), up to 2. 6GHz (400) (taken from their website)

I forgot I had my parents system in my car w/ a 2.4C in it (long story) I took it out popped it in and it boots into the bios just fine

Sweet, now you've got perfect justification for upgrading your CPU! 😀😎 Glad to hear everything's working still 🙂
