So I have 2002 Mitsubishi lancer with some aftermarket Kenwood in-dash receiver that came with the car when I bought it. The receiver doesn't have a line-in input, and I'm fed up of crappy FM transceivers for my iphone, so I bought a pioneer receiver that has line-in and USB and some other stuff.

So I take the old receiver out, stick the new one in, and I reuse the existing wiring thingy because the plug was basically the same, and the colors matched. Go to turn the new receiver on, and nothing happens. I fiddled with it, but nothing will make it come on. So I give up and plug the old one back in, and now that one doesn't work either! I also noticed that now my power locks do not work when the vehicle is off. If I put my keys in and turn them half way, the locks work, or if the engine if on, the locks work, but if I'm just trying to get into my car and open the driver side door with my key and then try to unlock the passenger doors, it doesn't work.

So I look at the fuses thinking something has happened, but the power locks fuse looks perfect. I also try to look at the radio fuse, but where my car manual says the fuse is supposed to be, there is a plastic tab over the fuse socket, and there's no fuse there!

I also noticed that my interior light doesn't turn on when I open the doors, and the headlights won't turn on unless the vehicle is running, or the keys are in with a half twist or whatever....

So, WTF? All my electric stuff is dead! I have not idea what to do now. Anyone have any ideas or help? I would love to get my power locks and at least my old receiver working.

Update: I just also noticed that if i have the car running with the headlights on, and I turn the engine off, the headlights go off immediately. It used to be that the headlights would stay on and they would turn off a few seconds after I opened the door.

I am willing to bet something in the dash got unplugged, or the harness is somehow shorting to ground.

There might be a main fuse somewhere in the car find it.

Also check the fuses up front in the Engine bay, not only down by the steering wheel. Pull each one out and inspect it if you have to. Might be a good idea to unplug the battery while you do it.

This PDF might help - check page 9 and on. http://tech.mirage-performance.com/...rvice manual/Volume 2/90 Circuit diagrams.pdf

The 99-02 Mirage is almost the same exact configuration.

Don't trust the manual or the fuse diagram at the fuse box. Or the labels. Pull each fuse and check it. I've had many cars that don't match the fuse diagrams at all.

Also, I wouldn't just plug the harness from one maker's radio to another one with verifying the wiring. That is just asking for trouble.
