I just installed a new Geforce 4 MX and got the latest drivers off the net. The only time I can play any games is right after I install the drivers. After I reboot I cannot play any games without having it freeze up. It only works right after the drivers have been installed and before its been rebooted. Why is this happening?:(

Did you do a complete reformat? Can we get some details of what you've done so far? Do you mind giving us an Operating System/System Specs? That would make it alot easier to give you advice...

Also, Welcome to Anandtech forums.

I am running Windows Me off of a 700MHz 256 SDRAM Compaq (I hate it). This may sound stupid but what do you mean by complete reformat? I have checked the compatiblity out with the store I bought it from and have installed the latest detonator drivers but I cant figure out why it will work right after I install the drivers but after I reboot it freezes immediantley in any game.

I went from a gef 2 tp a geforce 4 and had to move some the other hardware around, seems there was a irq conflict with the new vid card.

He means formatting C: and reinstalling Windows again. Old video card remnants can often cause problems and unless you're familiar with manually removing traces of them a reformat is your only option.

At the very least did you correctly uninstall your old video card drivers before switching cards?
