Hey guys today i just received an order from New Egg it was an OEM Liteon 24X burner that was supposed to come with "cd recording software" as specified on their website

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=5&manufactory=1336&DEPA=1

however all i got was the drive itself and a manual, screws, and audio cable...i wrote them an email but i don't know if that will resolve anything because truthfully if i bought something from someone and they said the software was missing when i received the item i would kinda laugh and think they were trying to pull a fast one on me. i really don't want to go through the hassle of sending the drive back...has anyone ever had something like this happen w/ new egg? would they be willing to send the software w/o shipping charges or maybe compensate me on the price in some way? thanks...just kinda ranting and raving about my dilemma here 🙂

i'm sure if you email/call them, they will send you a copy.

Go call or email them. I just got one too and after installing it I noticed that the software on the CD is hard coded for the burner so you would have a hard time pirating the stuff. To be sure, did ya check the box thoroughly amongst all the popcorn in the shipping box?

caboob,

The software itself is perfectly fine, but it is the registtration code that holds the key to allowing Nero to work with other burners I, for instance, have two CD-RWs in my system, and normally only the LiteOn would have worked with the software. I have discovered however a program on the Net that generates "universal" codes, and used it - after all, I need to use my machine. For obvious reasons - I'm not advertising piracy here! - I cannot post a link.

HenHowC, you really can do three things: 1) call the company and wait until they ship the software - I'm sure they will; 2) use a shareware, demo or freeware CD burning software or 3) go warez. Your question is an ethical one, and I hope you really don't expect us to take a decision for you.

Before you post here on what you should do, why don't you take the 5 minutes and call Newegg? I have found them quite helpful, well pretty helpful at least. If you were supposed to get something, and you didn't get it, they need to give it to you. If it was advertised to come with burning software and it didn't it probably just means someone forgot to put the cd in the box.

call them. my nero cd came with a nice large crack down the middle... they sent a replacement in about a week. until then, i used another version I had

I have to agree with the others. I get tremendous service from Newegg, as do most of the people that deal with them. They ship the CD loose in the box, so I am sure they recognize that it could have been left out. Give them a call. They have Next Day shipped promotional packages to me before. They should get you your CD quickly.

Please remember, you catch more flys with honey than with vinegar! This also applies to customer support people. Be nice! If that doesn't work, be forceful. Rude will get you no help!

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

thanks for the posts, i called customer support and they gave me no hassle and sent out the software, sorry for the pointless post
one way to get my post counts up 😉

they may sound like that b/c a few people have started to talk about Newegg did this or that to me... when it was an honest mistake and calling them resolved the problem quickly...
i can tell that wasn't your intention, but you just didn't know what to do...
well that is my reason anyways

Josh

Somethings fishy. A OEM usually comes with nothing but the drive. No manuals, no drivers (or software in your case, no screws or nothing. I have a feeling it was just a mistake. I'd politely e-mail them and explain your stance, and note that a OEM drive usually doesn't include anything so. That's what I'd do.

If your are getting software from New Egg then consider yourself lucky. OEM drives or (white box) are for OEM's who purchased volume licenses for the drive's software and don't need individual copies, hence no software in the box. New Egg states on their site that all OEM stuff is product only, no cables, software, etc.

The drive in question does include software per Newegg's description. I just ordered one of these drives for a machine I recently built. This particular version of Nero is specofoc to the LiteOn burner though. I am glad you got things resolved. Enjoy your new burner; it is a good one.
