Help! New computer freezes while playing games!

I've tried to play games on my new computer but everytime I try to play it will freeze on one screen and I wont be able to ctrl-alt-del out of it, I have to turn off the computer then turn it back on. Also, I am not overclocking at all. The floppy connector is connected to my video card also. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here are my specs:
P4 2.4B
Giga-byte GA-8HIXP
512MB PC1066
Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB
DVD-Drive
CD-RW Drive
Floppy
Radeon 9500 Pro
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Firewire PCI card
Antec 330w TruPower

EDIT: Also, I am running DX9 and Catalysts 3.0. I did also flash my card with the overclockable bios.

I had a non-overclocked system a couple of years back with a TNT2 M64 that had lockups during games (Toca 2, Unreal Tournament). The card had been added as a replacement to onboard graphics, which had not had any problems. The card was overheating I think, never bothered to do anything to sort it out and check (it was a second rig), but you sound like you have the same problem, possible overheating.

I have a fan blowing directly on the card. It does feel like its getting a little hot though. Its not overclocked.

You could try underclocking it a fair whack, then see if the problem persists. If the problem goes away when you underclock the card, you might want to RMA it, so you get one that works OK, as there may be a problem with the cards normal cooling in some way.

Went back to ATI's original bios and it works fine now. Maybe Catalyst 3.0 disables oc'ing even though in the bios it is enabled.

I read there are OpenGL problems with these for quite a few people, anyway more info over at Rage3D forums.

Seems there's an issue with the new DirectX drivers from ATI. Several friends have confirmed that OpenGL seems to have been broken on their machines of different configurations, mostly running XP but Pentium4's and Athlon XP's alike.
I just tried the Catalyst 3.0 drivers on Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast and have noticed pronounced stuttering that wasn't present in ATI's earlier 2.5 drivers. Other games affected by the issue I'm aware of are Quake3 Arena and Serious Sam.

Some people are apparently not affected, but I thought I'd post it. Direct3D games run great though 🙂

Games run fine on the original ATI bios. I do have stuttering in America's Army but other than that its fine.
